In keeping with, well, keeping to a schedule, I'm going to try to do my usual read LJ/post thing every day.
Yesterday, I admit I didn't do much.  I cut out some patterns in preparation for costuming.  I played some Mass Effect (preparing for the release of ME2 soon, not that I'll be buying it right away, more's the pity.)  Today, I worked on jewelry, and followed up with the unemployment claim I filed.  Turns out, I'll be taking a $600 per month hit to what I used to make.  *winces*  That's a lot of money to suddenly not have coming in.  And apparently, the Unemployment office is backed up, so who knows when I'll get my first check.  Of course, Oregon has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.  *sigh*

In the meantime, I'm watching Babylon 5 for the first time.  A friend has been trying to get me to watch it for over a year, and now I finally have the opportunity to do it, and get her season boxed sets back to her. :)   It was hard to get into it at first, but I'm on episode 8 or so of S1 now, and it's keeping me entertained.

No news from the old job, not that I expected any right away.  In the meantime, I'll just keep writing and making jewelry.  Once Nemesis is done, I'll look further into some freelancing.  I need to do something the help make up the money I'm suddenly not earning.  It's been a long time since I had to worry about having enough money for things like groceries.  I don't much like it.

In any case, here's some pretty photos for you of a recent custom order.  If you've been waffling about ordering something from me, now would be a good time - no waiting!  :D

If you're interested, here's the listing for a ring like this one in my Etsy store.

The 30% off Christmas sale is officially over. But I will be doing something on a much smaller scale very soon, that will extend all the way until Christmas, in case anyone is sad at having missed out.

BUT, I have one more order of business leftover from the sale. One lucky winner, selected by the internet's version of "name drawn from a hat", aka the random number generator, gets a custom made pendant or ring from me, using a gorgeous rainbow moonstone cabochon.

And that person is:

[livejournal.com profile] woodrunner !!

Congrats! Thank you everyone who participated in the sale, whether by mentioning me on their journal, or by purchasing, or both.

[livejournal.com profile] woodrunner please contact me, and let me know which you prefer - pendant or ring.

Happy Thanksgiving late! Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and stuffed themselves silly. Mine was pretty low key, with excellent food.

The Dickens dress is pretty much finished. All but the corset for it. I had to wear my black underbust corset, instead, as I just didn't want to kill myself getting the other one done. I'll have it finished before we go caroling (and oh, god, that is so going to suck! Our group does not sound, um, good. That's what happens when you don't practice!!) Anyway, they did wear underbust corsets over their skirts in the 1860's. They called them corselets, so it's still "period", just not as cool looking as the corset I have half finished.

Pics behind the cut! )

As a last note before I run off, don't forget, today and tomorrow are the last days of my 30% off sale for my Etsy store's entire stock! I already have seven names in the hat for the drawing to win a custom piece made by me. Those are pretty good odds!
rhienelleth: (snow berries - kistha)
I mentioned awhile ago, I'd be organizing a Christmas shopping sale for my Etsy store, and this is the official announcement with the details.

Next week, for the week of Thanksgiving only, I'll be offering an unprecendented 30% off marked prices on everything in my store, including already marked sale and clearance items. Starting Sunday, November 22, and running through Saturday, November 28th, just make a purchase as normal, but wait to pay with paypal until I send you an adjusted invoice, taking into account the 30% off.

In addition to that, I'll be holding a drawing for a custom made piece by me, featuring an absolutely gorgeous rainbow moonstone cabochon:

Beautiful blue flash, a generous 14x10mm size, and hand forged into either a pendant or a ring, winner's choice. Keep it, give it as a Christmas gift, or do your Christmas shopping in the store, and keep the moonstone piece for you (if you're the winner...)

Entries into the drawing are as follows:

~ mention my sale on your journal, and recieve an entry - see? No purchase necessary! The trick - you need to provide a link to my Etsy store, and then comment here linking me back to your post, so I know to enter you.

~ Spend $20 or less (not including shipping) and receive two entries into the drawing. For every $20 increment above that, receive two entries. So, for example:

Jane Smith buys a pair of earrings for $15 - she receives two entries into the hat. She mentions my sale on her journal and links me to the post - receiving another entry, for a total of three.

Bob spends $60 in the store (I will round up for things like $59, btw). He receives six entries into the hat. These numbers are, of course, after the 30% off is applied, so keep that in mind.

The custom pendant or ring will probably be similar to, but not exactly like this or one of these. And if you win, but rainbow moonstone just doesn't float your boat, I can negotiate that. But I'd prefer to keep it to another cabochon of similar size and cost.

I'll be holding the drawing on Sunday, November 29th, and announcing the winner on Monday the 30th.

All the items listed in the store are ready to ship, and can be custom gift wrapped and shipped directly to the intended recipient, if you prefer. Don't wait until the end of the week to buy that perfect Christmas gift, when an item might be gone! For reasons of fairness, I won't be "holding" items for people during the course of the sale. Only readers of this journal are getting the heads up that it's happening, and when, and all the details, so you'll already have a jump on everyone else, come Sunday morning. :D

I'm journeying into new jewelry territory, specifically, setting faceted stones.

There is definitely a learning curve.

So far, I've done two pieces. The end results, while pretty, are flawed, and thus, not suitable for listing in the Etsy shop. Instead, I'm offering them on a first come, first serve basis here, as practice pieces. Basically, I'll sell them for my cost, which will help absorb some of the material costs to doing however many of these practice pieces I'll need.

This morning, I have two rings. The first is a gorgeous, lab created blue sapphire. "Lab created" is not "fake". This is a real sapphire, but instead of being mined, it was created, as the name implies, in a lab. Lab created stones have some advantages over those mined in nature. They are flawless, perfectly colored, they lack any of the possible moral issues some mined stones come with (particularly diamonds, though that isn't the stone we're talking about here), and they're less expensive.

It's Friday. I'm only working half a day, so I can go sign final papers for the house, and then pack as hubby and I are headed north to visit some friends for the weekend.

Having no real content, I'll post the ring I made this week:

I've been sitting on this one for awhile, waiting for the weather and my time to photograph the piece to coincide, which finally happened this morning.

Haven't had one of these in awhile! Truthfully, I haven't made much jewelry beyond what's been ordered and already available in the shop lately. For awhile there, I was making a new piece a day, and I burned myself out for a bit.

But this weekend, I fired up my torch again and made some new pieces.

Pretties! )

More pics and info on all three at Ye Olde Etsy Shoppe.

I also worked on a gift for a friend, but I can't post pictures of that yet. :)

Just a note to say I'm doing one of my seasonal free shipping sales at Ye Olde Etsy Store.

Free shipping to anywhere, between now and Friday.

As is my usual policy, I've also marked down some items specially for this sale, which will return to normal pricing once it's over. Here is a sampling of a few of the items marked down:

...the sale is on!

Feel free to spread the word. In case you're curious as to WHY I'm having a sale, well, in part, because I got a flat tire this weekend.

Which led to me taking my car into Beggs Tires.

Which led to a bunch of my Vegas money going, instead, to pay for four new tires.  Apparently I have an alignment problem, fairly significant, which led to the inner part of my tires shredding to nearly nothing.  SHREDDING.  Anyway.  I'd actually planned on having some sort of pre-Father's Day sale this month, even though jewelry is a girly thing - hey, who doesn't buy something for themselves when they go shopping??  But the whole new tire thing just factored into my 'kind of planning' and made it really happen. :D

The sale ends at 10:00am PST Wednesday morning.

I will be offering a very limited, 48-hour sale in my Etsy store very soon.  Free shipping anywhere in the world.  Temporary (very) discounts on items.

Just a heads up.  I'll post again when it goes live.  It's scheduled for tomorrow morning, but I might cheat and go a little early tonight.

Mine was great! Saw Star Trek twice, spent time with my Mom, and made some jewelry (Mom wanted to 'see how I did it'.)

You know what that means, right? Yep! A gratuitous jewelry post! (I keep half expecting people to get sick of these, and a mass unfriending to occur. Amazingly, this hasn't happened yet.)

(First, though, if you missed my Trek review post, it's here. No spoilers in the uncut part, spoilers behind the cut. In case you just want the quick version, I LOVED IT.)

Sparklies )

As usual, more pics and such at the Etsy store.

(Sekrit message to [livejournal.com profile] xlana - the little blue topaz pendant - which is going out in the mail today - was quite the hit with everyone I was showing pieces to this weekend. I had to explain - twice - that it was already sold!)

Oh, and now I'm off to do some writing. :D

I've been busy!

(Side note- I'm determined not to click on any of y'all's SPN posts this morning, until I've seen the episode. But I get the impression Bad Things happened. I confess to being very worried.)

(Side note #2 - I am NOT seeing Star Trek tonight, because my mother has requested to see it tomorrow for Mother's Day. Since she addicted me to Trek geekdom forevermore when I was still in diapers, the woman gets what she wants. Even if I have to wait a day to see it. *drums fingers* But it's very hard, f-list. Very hard, indeed.)

I did lots of soldering last night, to the unfortunate point where I hurt myself, because now all my neck muscles are totally tight and I have this residual headache. But the results are worth it! Mostly.

Pretties! )
More pictures and info at the Etsy store!

(Side note #3 - if any of you would like to see some stones other than labradorite *cough*, what would you be interested in, either stone or color-wise? I need to be shopping for some new cabochons.)

I do not get to see Wolverine today. Or possibly all weekend. Am VERY GRUMPY about this.

I almost forgot! Today starts a Mother's Day sale for myself and a lot of other jewelry artists on the Etsy street team I belong to. We're all offering free shipping on everything in our stores, starting today, and going until 9pm Pacific time (midnight, Eastern) on Sunday. What Mom doesn't love jewelry for Mother's Day? And jewelry that's a unique, handmade piece is so much more special than something mass produced for a jewelry store chain.

Technically, we're supposed to start at noon today, but I went ahead and changed my shipping prices a little early, so I wouldn't forget.

Go here to see a clickable list of all the participating Etsy stores.

Go here for my store. I've also added some new pieces lately that I haven't posted pics of here, like these:

Tax day! I cannot forget to go by and sign for our taxes today. But other than that, everything is done so I have no worries. :D

Still on a copper kick. I've had these earrings in process for two days - three if you count the day I first saw them in my head.

Not a whole lot different from the post two days ago, but I've made a longer pair of the copper cup earrings.

Pics )

I actually made a pair of these longer ones for me, hence the pic of them being worn. And I made another pair of the the two cup version for a friend who was complaining about not having any good earrings to wear and needed a pick-me-up, and everytime I see them on her I think "Wow, those are great earrings!" Hee. :D I don't think that about everything I make. Really, I don't. :D

I did list these at the Etsy store, the usual more pics and info there. So far, the copper earrings have proven popular! And again, the earwires are argentium silver, so good for sensitive ears.
rhienelleth: (Default)
Largely because I'm sick. Mark and I both have some stupid bug that seems to come and go at will. Headache, nausea, sometimes a fever, and occasional dizziness. It's great! (sarcasm)

It's also been an age since I did a GJP, so I'm getting back in the LJ saddle with one today.

Fun with copper. )

These are all hand cut and shaped by me - the copper cups are super cute and fun - they kind of jingle when worn, as the cups and stones swing against each other. I paired silver wire with the copper in both earrings, and earwires are silver so as not to affect sensitive ears (like mine). More pictures and info at ye olde Etsy store.

I try not to overwhelm you guys with my obsessions, so I don't throw too many jewelry links at you very often. But this lady's work is stunning, AND fandom friendly. Doesn't get much better than that! Though it is sold out, this is my favorite piece of hers.

The rest of her Galaxy series is also fabulous. :D
