Ok, all you folks who responded to my last post, I kept wondering what you meant when you said this was an "expensive hobby".  I was thinking "Gee, my tray and pliers were only about $6 apiece.  As long as I shop the clearance bins, the beads aren't all that expensive, even though I'm using mostly pearls so far."  Yeah.  Now I know.

I bought a bunch of findings last night, so I'd have them on hand for future necklaces.  And stuff to make earrings, and a multi-tool thing for making loops when making earrings, that's also a wire cutter and stuff.  And then I bought a couple more strands from the clearance bin, and made the mistake of browsing the wall of semi-precious stones.  Ever heard of blue goldstone?  It's blue, but has all these sparkly gold flecks in it.  Very pretty sparkly flecks.  I believe I mentioned that I love sparkly things, right?  I couldn't resist!  I bought two strands in varying sizes, and had to restrain myself from buying more!  AHHH!  It's a good thing I had some cash on me to offset the debit card hit, that's all I can say.  I think when I go to the bead show with Paula, I'm going to take a set amount of cash, and only allow myself to spend that much, period.

I made my first set of earrings last night, after ruining two...what are they called...the pins you slide the beads on, then cut to length and make a loop on the end of..eye pins?  I don't remember.  Anyway, I ruined a couple of those teaching myself how to make little loops.  I'll post pics of the earrings once the necklace to match is finished.  By the by, those of you who RPG, beading is the perfect activity to occupy yourself with when you're stuck playing a spectacularly bad game.  Unlike an open laptop, it makes it look like you're still paying attention, even though what you really want to do is kill off you're perfectly good character so you don't have to suffer this person's awful campaign anymore.  (The things Mark and I put up with in the name of friendship, man.)

Anyway, after last night's terrible game, I am almost finished with the lavendar (lilac?) pearl necklace.  I was almost bummed when the game ended, just because I was only about ten knots from having strand 2 completed.

I am anxious to do somewthing with the sparkly goldstone, however.  Everytime I see it, I have to pick it up and play with the beads.  I got pretty large - probably 8 or 10mm - round beads, and then some really small little gold beads I was thinking of putting between each goldstone.  But I almost want to do something a little more exciting with the beads, I'm just not sure what.  Creating designs really isn't my forte yet.
