So, The Vampire Diaries came back tonight. Considering the normal amount of stuff they cram into their episodes at a breakneck pace, this one seemed...off. Slower. Less twisty and full. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy seeing everyone again, particularly Damon, but I am saying this wasn't their best episode ever. That being said, you know the only reason ( spoiler cut )
Masquerade, painted faces on parade
Oct. 28th, 2010 09:33 pmEXCESSIVE CAPSLOCK WARNING - HOLY CRAP, Y'ALL! HOW DOES THIS SHOW PACK SO MUCH INTO ONE HOUR? REALLY F-ING GOOD WRITING, THAT'S HOW.

TVD, Nikita
Oct. 21st, 2010 10:04 pm The Vampire Diaries was freaking awesome tonight!
( Cut for spoilers! )Also, what's this BS about the network "revamping" Nikita already? Adding more humor?? A new love interest??? WTF, CW. Your "new hit series" isn't enough of a hit for you, so you're going to, in typical network fashion, "fix" something that isn't broken, and no doubt break it in the process. More humor? I mean come on! It's not that type of show! It's dark - that's Nikita! If you wanted humor, you shouldn't have used Nikita as your story base. And there's already plenty of shippy opportunities for fans (Owen, Michael) for Nikita, or for Alex, for that matter (Thom, Michael).
/end rant
Speaking of Nikita, tonight's episode was also very good. Too bad that is likely to go downhill once the network execs get their way with this "revamp".

May. 7th, 2010 08:36 am Pretty, pretty show! They picked a really good actress to play ( spoilers )
In other news, my dog is now throwing up rice in chicken broth with lots of foil wrappers throughout. Ugh. It only took 36 hours for her body to reject the stuff. Hopefully, this is the last of it.

Well, what do you know! I'm running Semagic off my thumb drive, and Mobipocket Creator and portable Mozilla. :D All that remains is Photoshop. (Which I found and am attempting to install on my thumb drive even now.)
Of course, all of this makes my thumb drive exponentially more important than it used to be. I will have to invest in a backup version.
I have to admit, it's pretty amazing that these days, you can run software off those little things. It just goes to show - protections people try to put in place never seem to outpace the evolving ability of new technology/software. Companies remove all ability for people to install software on their machines, but they can still run it off ultra small, portable devices, so what are they reall gaining?
I don't care, so long as I get to keep all my bookmarks, and use the software I've become very comfortable with. What's funny - I actually use Photoshop for my job, but they're too stingy to buy it for me.
"We've got a couple of old copies floating around, but you'd have to fight to get them to buy a license for you."
"Okay," I say, "so what alternate software do you have for me to use?"
"Paint"
...
"Paint? Are you serious?"
I mean, really? Paint? It's like the most crap graphic editing program out there.
(Oh, damn. Unfortunately, while PS seems to have installed just fine, I can't get it to run? It starts and then nothing happens, nothing opens. IDK. I'll have to do some more work with it.)
I am only wokring a half day today, which means I'm in a really excellent mood despite still being horribly sick. Come on, stupid cold - I'm tired of having you now! Go away.
Note to Christmas shoppers - I'm going to be doing a really radical sale with my Etsy store, in other words, huge discounts on all current stock in a pre-Christmas sale. I'll be setting up the details this weekend, and starting it sometime this month. This will be on all current inventory. I need to move some stuff. Storing it is taking up a lot more room than you might think, and I'm on the verge of setting up a new workstation/re-organzing all my jewelry stuff. The less I have to re-organize, the easier it will be.
I enjoyed The Vampire Diaries last night. I thought last week's ep was better, but last night's was still good. They still aren't pulling any punches with Damon as a bad guy. :D

Why I like The Vampire Diaries
Oct. 8th, 2009 08:05 pm"Honestly, I'm not going to be one of those pathetic girls, whose world stops spinning because of some guy."
Yes, Elena, thank you! That's why I like you! You are not, thank God, Bella Swan. Let's just start with that as a building block.
( VD isn't trying to be Twilight; it's the anti-Twilight. )

What's not to love?
Sep. 24th, 2009 03:20 pmSo, there are two clips floating around out there for tonight's episode of The Vampire Diaries - in one of them, Caroline reminds me of Cordelia from her Buffy days, and ( cut for very mild spoilers )
EW interview w/Ian Somerhalder
Sep. 18th, 2009 10:18 amHe appears to really be thinking deeply about Damon's motivations, and playing the character accordingly.
The very best villains are those that are three-dimensional, rather than just "evil". Oh, I am so, SO diving headfirst into a new fannish obsession! First, it was the pretty blue eyes. Then the smirk. Then the EVIL, OMG!
I haven't been able to stop thinking about the show or the character since I watched the episode last night. It's interfering with my writing time now! (Largely because fic wants to be written. But too bad, fic isn't being written until after I make my re-write quota for the day.)
I haven't fallen this hard for a character since Sark. *sigh*

Vampire Diaries
Sep. 17th, 2009 11:08 pmSooooooooooo....keeping in mind in my head, I've utterly divorced this series from the books. I don't remember the details of them that well (although they are currently on my kindle, waiting to be re-read), and I don't think the show is going to stick too closely to them, anyway. I think it suffers a bit from Twilight-itis. However, the vampires here are at least a bit more manly than the vampires there. Not that it takes much.
