Two days in a row where I'm actually in a good mood! The week is finally looking up now that it's almost over.

My sister is coming over tonight, and we're going to have a girl's night, watch movies, and work on a corset for her. I haven't done any sewing in awhile, I'm muchly looking forward to it. :) Also this weekend, I get a massage. THAT I definitely can't wait for. I so need one.

Also, I am biting the bullet and getting ready to send out a few queries for Nemesis. In the process of this, I have come back to waffling about that prelude. Sure, it sets up the universe, but now that the book is done, does the prelude really need to be there? Any of you out there who have read it, please give me your thoughts! I'm not asking if the prelude works, I'm asking if you think it's necessary. Because if it's not, it needs to go.

See? I can be ruthless.

ETA: Still hate query writing.

Oddly, the phrase "telepathic space pirates" seems to really intrigue people. I mean, sure, I use it as a tag here. I have bandied it about since Nemesis was just a bunch of annoying characters refusing to shut the hell up in my head. Still, as a phrase it verges on comical and possibly gives the wrong impression of the book. Phule's Company, this is not. But....it seems to garner instant interest. Should I use it? Shouldn't I? *bangs head on keyboard*

Oh, right. This is so why I haven't moved on this query thing faster. And I thought DV was hard to write a good hook for.

But I have managed to waste time better spent struggling with query hooks playing with photoshop, instead. Because yesterday's snippet made it apparent to me that it's high time she had her own icon. Flores:

Hmm, the female cast seems to be growing in number. :-D

Also *looks at icons of Mercy and Flores. Thinks of Meria's description* I think Reaper may have a "type" or at the very least, a "look" he prefers.

FAIL SciFi

Sci Fi Channel isn't about to let down "Stargate" fans.

Really Skiffy?? Really?? Because I think you let us down when you canceled our freaking show! You know, the one we actually care about, with characters we're invested in. I am not really inclined to feel any excitement whatsoever about Stargate: Universe.

"Howe said the new series will reinvigorate the franchise by targeting a younger audience.

"This is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a new generation," Howe said. "We really don't want to be more of the same. It's going to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a younger vibe."

Wow. I think I feel insulted.

First of all, Skiffy, your average demographic age isn't sixteen, or whatever. It's great that you want to bring more of that younger demographic to you viewing audience, but given the success of, say, Twilight, and books like Wicked Lovely perhaps a vampire or even fairy drama aimed at teens would do the trick. Pissing off your core audience by canceling their freaking show so you can bring in a younger, hipper version is perhaps not the best strategic move on your part. Focusing more on space battles and "...breaking new ground in the relationships between mostly young and desperate explorers, thrust together and far from home..." is bringing to mind horrors like Wing Commander and Starship Troopers.

I mean, sure, you can have a show about adventure and humor and relationships in space, and do it right and have it be successful. (Says I, as I have a book kinda like that sitting on my hard drive.) But...you kind of already have, with Farscape and BSG. And if you'd actually do something with some relationships on SGA, you could go there, too. But no, you must reboot the entire franchise and try to "reinvigorate" it with a younger vibe. Whatever the hell that means.

Won't let us down? A little too late for that.
