OMG.

*weeps*

So, normally I am a fanatic about backing shit up. I don't know why I didn't back up the file for Consort in four different ways, like I usually do. Maybe, maybe I copied it from my thumb drive to the Mac at home....maybe.

If I didn't, I am screwed. Completely. The file is....I don't know. It opens to all these little squares instead of words and wants to install a plugin for Word to even open it.

*SOB*

Remember when I first started it, and lost the first file? I had to start over, and then I was pleased because it ended up SO MUCH BETTER.

But I LOVED it this time, and I didn't just lose 500 words. I lost, I don't know. Five thousand? The entire beginning, plus a little bit from a later scene. I am FREAKING THE HELL OUT. And the worst part is, I have no one to blame but myself.

Back up your shit. I have like six copies of Nemesis in multiple locations, including as a "sent" file in my e-mail as a last resort. I cannot even BELIEVE I didn't do the same for Consort yet, especially after that first incident.

I'm going to be over here, sobbing over words lost. And wondering if by some miracle, I was smart enough to copy the most recent version of the file to my Mac. Or any version, even.

Oh no, that's horrible :( I hope that it ends up opening for you, or that you find another copy!

Buried amongst all the strange symbols and squares, I was able to recover a snippet of a scene. That added with the snippets I have posted here gives me about 1100 words. 1100.

YIKES! That sucks so much! Oh my god! Try to breathe.

I hope you find a happy uncorrupted file sneaked in somewhere at home.

Also, worth not fussing (if it's not too late) with the file that you have on the thumb drive, and try opening it at home - it might work there.

Good Luck

Oh, good thinking! I believe I am going to drive home on my lunch just so I can look and also to try this.

If the file on the drive doesn't work at home - maybe try looking for a file repair program, or something? Or look in the temporary files on your computer, something like that... There might still be something there. Good luck!

No dice. Not on my Mac at home, not open-able on my Mac at home (or no more than here) and a recovery/repair program did no more than Word already has.

Damn.

That sucks hugely. I'm a techno-peasant and cannot offer one teensy bit of advice, alas.

Eeee...I'm flashing back to my dead laptop and all the unbacked up files... I hope you have a happier ending than I did. :(

Email it to me, it sounds like a conversion issue. I'll see what I can do.

*gasps* Really? At this point I've pretty much given up, but if you can recover even part of it that i don't already have, I'll be eternally grateful.
