Questions for NY residents

Ok, I've looked at maps and things online, but maps don't always give you the best visual. If I'm writing something set on the NYU campus, and I have a character leaving the library (the one near the park, which from what I can tell is the main library, not the law library?), would said character then conceivably walk through Washington Square Park to get to his/her vehicle? Also, how far is the Village from there, travel-wise? Walking distance, biking distance, or driving? And I'm assuming someone who lives there would just call it "the village" rather than "greenwich village"?
This is for a very small scene, but I just want to make sure I get the details right. Thanks in advance.

Date: 2005-06-30 06:31 pm (UTC)As for 'the village', there are actually 2 of them - the East Village, which is where NYU is located and the West Village, aka Greenwich Village. If you leave NYU and go a couple of very tiny blocks east, you would be at Astor & St. Marks Place, which are key in the East Village. Greenwich is about 4 blocks going west and a little further north, more like W. 8th to about W. 14th, including Christopher Street and over to the Hudson River.
All walkable or bikeable and you can always drive, but no one does.
