Apr. 11th, 2006 07:06 pmSince last night I've been feeling crappy, like a really bad stomach ache without the actual nausea, and unable to really eat anything even though I'm hungry. I drank coffee this morning, of course, but that's really it. It took me until now to realize it isn't a stomach ache at all, but a gall stone attack! Damn it all anyway.
It's been so long since I've had one, I'd actually forgotten what they felt like! I eat fairly carefully because gall stones have plagued me for about the last decade. Yes, I am young to suffer from them, but it runs in my family. My grandmother, my mother, my aunt, and two cousins have all had their gall bladders removed by the age of 35. When I started suffering these blasted uncomfortable attacks years ago, I didn't know what was wrong. I tried describing the feeling to my mother, and she immediately figured out the problem - after asking a clarifying question or two. Even though it's an issue, doctors don't like to do the actual surgery unless the attacks become so painful they have to. I'm supposed to avoid greasy, fatty foods to limit the frequency and severity of the episodes until then. Travel, age, and pregnancy can also aggravate the issue. I'm not traveling, not 40, so please God, hear me and tell me I'm not pregnant either! It was just that camarones ala diabla I had to have the other day at the mexican restaurant, yes? Spicy mexican food could aggravate my gall stones, even though spicy food hasn't been a problem in like three years...
Course, I'm supposed to avoid coffee, too, but that's just because the cheap over-roasted stuff is greasy!
