(no subject)

Ok, so yeah. Today I am officially 30 years old. Strangely, it doesn't feel much different from 29.

Perhaps 35 will feel older. *shrugs*

What am I doing for my birthday? Not a whole heck of a lot. Going to work. Going to school. And then Mark and I are going out tonight for dinner and a movie (probably Hellboy, although there are so many in the theater right now that I want to see, it's hard to say.) And he's still so completely jet lagging that it'll be interesting to see how either awake, or completely sacked he is tonight. Coming back from a 17 hour time difference is a lot harder when you're 30 than when you're 25, I guess. (He turned 30 a few days before coming back. Yes, our birthdays are like 10 days apart.)

Other than that, not much to report. Except that no, I haven't forgotten the Rohirrim fic. Yes, I am plugging away at it in the few minutes of time I seem to get each day. Hoping to get it finished this weekend.

Ella Enchanted

dolphin__girl will understand this post, as she's the one who introduced me to the fabulous book.

Like her, I was unhappy with the recent previews we've seen, which not only have Ella doing some Matrix-esque fight moves, but also introduce an "evil villain" in Cary Ewles character, which never existed in the book. And there are so many more things that look wrong. The book was this charming tribute to so many favorite fairy tales. The movie -- according to previews and the review I just finished reading -- takes the book, and twists it into a Shrek styled parody of fairy tales.

And the reviewer had never even read the book. That was just based on what he/she saw in the movie.

Ugh. If I wasn't sure before, I am now. Skipping this one at the theater. And I'm sad to see a beautiful book massacred at the box office.
