Plum

So far (I'm only on Chapter 3), Eleven On Top is just as funny as I expected. Funny story:

I bought a copy for my friend L, and she walked from work to her sister's place to pick up her car last evening, about three blocks. She's walking, and suddenly this car going by slows, and then backs up. "Somebody must need directions," she thinks. This woman rolls down her window and says "OMG, is that the book?! It's out?! Where did you get it?" L was a little taken aback, shocked that the woman could recognize the book by glimpsing about half its cover as she was driving past. "Um, yeah," she answered cautiously, "A friend picked it up for me; I'm pretty sure she got it at the book store." The woman, still overcome with excitement, said "OMG, I have to go and buy it right now." She also asked if it was good, if L had started reading it yet, etc, none of which L could answer, because she hadn't. Then the woman drove off in the direction of the book store.

Too funny.

Also, I absolutely needed a Plum icon. With Ranger and Morelli. It shouldn't be hard to guess which is which. ;)

I forgot my watch and my wedding ring at home this morning. I was trying to be nice and get dressed quietly, in the dark, so as not to wake up Mark. I hate not knowing the time instantly, any time I want, by glancing at my wrist. And not having my wedding ring on fills me with adrenaline induced fear every time I run my thumb over that finger in my usual unconscious check to make sure it's still there, and find it's not all over again. That's the one drawback of having a more expensive ring -- the "OMG I've lost it and we can't afford to replace it" button, followed up by "Duh, you haven't lost it, it's just at home. Thank God."

I can't help it if I'm a magpie drawn to sparkly things.

Somehow rambling on about this reminded me of the time when Mark was throwing cardboard into one of those big recycle dumpster things, and his ring was a little loose, and it went flying off into the dumpster with the cardboard. We'd only been married for three months, and his ring cost almost as much as mine, because it's platinum and has lots more metal. You better believe he crawled into the dumpster after that ring, and found it. But he said his heart just about stopped when it happened.

If we had it to do over again, I wonder if we would spend the same money on our rings. I'm allergic to gold (and indeed all metals except platinum and titanium), but Mark's ring could have been white gold. And I could have opted for sparkly cz's instead of diamonds.

Fic Question

Somehow in the intervening time since I last wrote Andromeda fic, the site I used to go to which contained every technical detail for the show has vanished. And I can't remember, and don't own the DVDs to look up, what weapon Beka refers? Or should I say what sidearm she carries? I've looked, and I can't seem to find it referenced anywhere.

You all are my last, best, and only hope. Please tell me that someone, somewhere, even a third-cousin-removed to my f-list has access to this obscure information?

Snippet

Wow. I just finished Chapter 13 of All the Stars Asunder. I'm feeling kind of accomplished, and like it might just be possible to finish this WIP, after all. It's off to eretria for beta, after which I'll post it here, or a link to it here.

I'm sort of debating. The fic used to be archived in lots of places. But then FF.net went NC-17-less, and various Try/Beka sites disappeared, and now it's only up at one site that I know of. todust is working on some problems with my fic site, so it can't go up there, yet. I'm thinking I might upload the previous twelve chapters in my pitiful html way, and post links here with Chapter 13, the easier for people to read it.

I have a thing where I don't like pasting fic into lj entries, unless it's a stand alone ficlet, because then you have to wade backwards through tons of posts to find the beginning. Does that make sense?

Suggestions/opinions? The 'chapters' range from 1,000-3,000 words apiece, and are all in separate files on my HD.

Andromeda Fic

I will also be archiving this at Skyhawke when their server probs clear up, but for now I wanted to post these in some form or fashion, so that when I post Chapter 13, anyone new who wanders by won't be confused. I wrote these first twelve chapters roughly three years ago, about the same time as the first Illusions fic.
