Coffee update
Aug. 4th, 2005 11:09 amThere is something wrong with the pump on my espresso machine. There has been it seems, since I started using it, and it's just taken me this long to figure it out. I can't tamp at all and still pull a shot. It's like if the pump encounters any resistance whatsoever, it chokes. Calling Starbucks' support this afternoon. Hoping they will either be able to fix it, or replace the machine.
Anyhow, as a result of this, I've been spending quite a lot of time on coffeegeek.com again. I'm pretty certain a Rocky grinder is going on my Christmas list. So I can grind my own beans and have almost the freshest coffee possible. (I am not interested in ever learning how to roast my own. My coffee obsession only goes so far.)
Still, I am able to work my machine well enough to enjoy a decent, if not exactly perfect, iced caramel macchiato this morning. And because I use only a third of the caramel in the recipe, and replace the rest with splenda, I still get the appropriate sweetness with the tasty bits of real caramel, and not all the calories. I'm also using sugar-free vanilla and 2% milk (because I cannot stand the taste of skim). I am considering trying soy milk, just because I'm not so sure it's a good thing that I'm suddenly drinking the equivalent of a glass of milk every morning. I mean, I know milk is good for me. I'm just worried about the fat/caloric content. Someday it would be nice to fit into my skinny jeans again.
Oh, I so need a coffee icon. These posts about coffee are getting frequent enough to need their own category.
