Odd sort of cooking question:

I love making homemade tacos and/or burritos and/or taco salads. The salads especially in the 100+ degree weather we are expecting today. But I hate, hate, hate the over-salted, too thick, too...um, corn meal-y? chips that seem to be the only thing available in stores. I love the lighter, thinner, fresher variety served in decent mexican restaurants. Or even the hard flour variety I've seen taco salad bowls made from. How do I duplicate this at home? Or find something similar to buy on the shelf?

one easy way to make chips is to just get some good tortillas, cut them into strips or chip shapes, and fry them in a hot light oil. takes a matter of minutes to do a batch and drain them. for a shell you can do the same thing, you just have to fry it in the right shape.

Thanks. I suspected I could do something like that, but wasn't absolutely positive how it would turn out. I mean, I assume that at least some restaurants make their own shells, etc.

Ooh, I love having tortillas like that. We usually make them (in small strips) to use in tortilla soup, but I generally end up eating them instead of the soup. *is hungry*

Don't know if they carry these chips in your stores, but I *adore* 'Tia Rosa' brand chips. They're nice and thin, just like you'd get homemade at a Mexican restaurant. :) And they're pretty darn inexpensive!

On a completely completely completely unrelated note... do you, um... *cough* have, say... *ahem* non-Alias fanfic... archived somewhere?

I got up to part 12 on a series that may not have any more parts than that, but... I just thought I'd check. >.>

You must be talking about my Andromeda series. ;)

It isn't archived anywhere, but I have written Chapter 13 (recently, in fact), and am in the midst of finishing the last few chapters. ('in the midst' meaning in between other projects, and thus taking longer than I might have hoped.)

You can, however, find the link to Chapter 13 in this journal entry.

Happy reading. :) I also have a couple of other non-Alias fics, which you may or may not have any interest in. A 'King Arthur' Lancelot/Guinevere fic, and a short LOTR "missing scene" ficlet.

I love you.

And no, I have no interest in the other two, but I did quite enjoy the Andromeda one.
