Good Morning!
Oct. 10th, 2006 08:01 amI'm feeling all cut off from the world because I had yesterday off from work, and typically I don't peruse the f-list nearly as much at home as I do at work. Plus, I was busy all weekend, which gave me very little time to check in.
L and I spent Saturday cutting out all the fabric for my costume, including the cloak, which is going to be so awesome! We found the perfect kind of shimmery blue satiny fabric on clearance for $2/yard for the lining - so much more interesting than basic lining, and less expensive, too. All I need now is the trim, which I haven't yet found to my liking.
In related L news, she's being very brave and commissioning a wire mask from me after only seeing my unfinished copper/silver plate, in the wrong gauges, mock up mask. But she needs a mask for the masquerade thingy (the one she has just doesn't match her costume in the slightest, and an online search produced nothing that looked quite right for a Fairy Queen in pink and silver.) So...I'm making one in silver, with pink and white swarovski embellishments, and I'm not sure what else. I finished the basic structure last night, which turned out even better than my mock up did. (I figure by the time I get to my mask in gold fill, I'll be an expert.) Like I said, very, very brave of her, but so far I am confident it will turn out well. I'm going to take pics of the mask-in-progress at each "phase" of construction to post when it's finished.
One thing I wish I could find, I've seen some finished wire pieces kind of coated in a translucent colored liquid of some kind, which I think would be neat to give her finished mask an overall pink look to match her dress. You can still see the color of the metal through this stuff, whatever it is, but it tends to gather in little loops and look kind of like bits of stained glass. I have no idea if it's sprayed on, brushed on, dipped, whatever, but I wish I could find it. Would probably help keep the silver from tarnishing, too, since this mask is going to be sterling and not argentium. (I had some sterling that needed using up, and L said she didn't care, so...)
Moving on, I loved and adored
Anyone know how I can get my hands on a copy of the recently aired BBC Robin Hood? I would almost, but not quite, sell my soul for such a thing.

BSG 3x01 and x02 - I don't think I have a single complaint, except for Lee. Enough with the fatsuit, already, and was that gratuitous towel shot really necessary?? They can make up for it later in the season with copious further towel shots when he's back in fighting trim. Which will hopefully be very soon.
I loved Galen and Anders as revolutionaries - Anders has finally won me over. I just never really liked him a LOT last season. He was ok, but not great like Helo or Lee or Tyrol. Now, I get the Anders love. How cool were his and Kara's matching arm tattoos? I'm guessing that's in place of wedding bands, and I really like the design - waaaaaay better than, say, each other's names!
Boy, Colonel Tigh was always a hard ass, but I think being held in detention and tortured has sent him over the deep end. Even Tyrol and Anders were exchanging looks like "I think the old man's gone crazy". And what does Ellen really think she's accomplishing by sleeping with the Cylon? Does she NOT see that she is being completely used, in more ways than one?
Adama needs to lose the 'stache, like, yesterday. His mustache, Lee's fatsuit, both need to just go.
But I really like how they've had him bond with Sharon and start to trust her again. Her spending a whole nother season in a detention cell just wasn't a great prospect. And she's gotten over her rage (at least until she discovers how she was betrayed and her baby stolen) AND she's married to Helo!!!! 'Sharon Agathon' - that was definitely one of my SQUEE moments of the night. I hope they last. I really, really hope they last.
Kara, oh Kara. You are so awesome. I like your hair better shoulder length, but you still rock, killing Leoben five times during your captivity, freaking out over Kasey - KC? - who, btw, is the most adorable little blond girl EVER - and then caring about her in spite of yourself.
I hope she liberates KC when she escapes, as we all know she eventually will. And I really hope that hand holding thing at the end was her lulling Leoben into a false sense of security to that end, and inside she is callously planning her escape with KC.
What's with Leoben's "I've seen this...I've seen that..." rotuine? He has visions, huh?
Wow, Callie really, really hates Sharon. Like, a lot. I'm not sure I like Callie anymore. I understand her hatred, I do, but she seems kind of....crazy with it.
I loved that moment when the Cylons were all talking about killing Baltar, and Caprica Six stands up and says "That's not happening." in this flat, unmovable tone. And then when she's killed so they can intimidate Baltar without her interference, and suddenly Delusion Six is back, as though the two cannot coexist.
I loved when Baltar is trying to get Roslin to help him stop the suicide bombings, and she talks about the people being tortured, and he desperately insists - twice -that no one's been tortured, like it's the last thread of sanity he has to hold onto. (Well, his sanity's debatable, but you get what I mean.)
Felix! Super-sekrit double agent! I felt really sorry for him when Tyrol was all "why don't you do something." Hello!! How much of a genius do you have to be to figure out that Felix is the most likely candidate for their inside source? Evidently, smarter than Tyrol.
That ending was very interesting - I wonder how Laura survives. My current theory is they're killing Tom off, and he shields her with his own body, thus saving her.
Have I mentioned how much I love Sharon Agathon? I love her working with the revolutionaries and embracing her loyalty to the humans. What will happen if she's killed? What will the Cylon do with her newly downloaded self? *hopes that doesn't happen anytime soon* I'd like to see more of her and Helo.
All in all, looking forward to seeing where this season goes. This show continues to rock. I know my opinion might be unpopular after last season, but I've actually loved every second of it. Brilliance, I say.I loved Galen and Anders as revolutionaries - Anders has finally won me over. I just never really liked him a LOT last season. He was ok, but not great like Helo or Lee or Tyrol. Date: 2006-10-10 05:16 pm (UTC)The fat suit was very scary. Lee seemed so lost without Kara as his compass to challenge him.
I liked Anders in early S2, but not as much in LDYB. Mostly because it seemed very wimpy that he was ill when saw him in the Great Leap Forward. But I like him in S3. Glad to see he is back to being a resistance fighter and worthy of Starbuck.
Finally kinda like Tigh. Especially with the tenderness he inquired about Kara. I think he is finally found the thing he is good at. He may still be a hardass but it will serve him here.
And Kara. Wow. That was so freaky. Like right on the edge of a mental break.
The whole thing was so intense that I was in knots afterward.

Date: 2006-10-10 09:31 pm (UTC)I ventured into BSG fandom back when the series was just starting, and sorta got turned off by some of the negativity that prevailed at the time. I haven't tried since, so I have no idea if a bad attitude still prevails or if there are islands of sanity within the fandom. Though I would hazard that people on my f-list, at least, are islands of sanity unto themselves. LOL.

Date: 2006-10-11 07:38 am (UTC)Anyway, the real reason for my comment: I've seen Robin Hood and believe me when I say that it's definitely not worth selling your soul for.
I've got the Robin Hood 1x01 "Will You Tolerate This" torrent on my hard drive. It took three torrents before I found one that a) was widescreen and b) actually worked. If you go to isohunt (http://torrents.to/search/209/robin+hood.html), the dl with "DaRmEtH" in the torrent tag is the one that eventually worked for me. There's another one there that's popped up since I dled it that might also be good. It ends in " BiA.avi" and is currently the first one listed.
I suck at uploading anything. I've tried in the past but have failed miserably, otherwise I would be happy to assist in that manner. All I can do is burn it as a data file on a CD-R and snailmail it out to you.
