Weekend catch-up
Mar. 5th, 2007 08:05 amI didn't get a hook done and turned in to Agent X's hook critique thing, as I'd planned this weekend. Mostly because a lot of other things got in the way, and I didn't make it a priority. On the other hand, I spent a LOT of time with my friend L on Saturday ,and Sunday, too, and she's kind of going through a lot right now. Her Dad was hospitalized a couple of weeks ago after collapsing, at which point we all learned he has colon cancer and it's pretty advanced (stage 4). He knew something was wrong, but was trying to put off going to the doctor until he turned 65 this summer, because then he gets medical coverage, which he doesn't have now.
Anyway, long story short, he was hospitalized again last week because he couldn't keep any food down and was in an incredible amount of pain. Then he got some sort of infection, and they found fluid on his lungs and some kind of hole in his stomach, and basically on Friday L and L2 were told their Dad would be very lucky to survive through the weekend. He did, but things are still far from rosy. I spent my Saturday and part of Sunday distracting L from worrying about her Dad and whether or not he was going to come out of his self induced coma, and whether or not she was about to get a call from the hospital.
Now he's been given six to eight weeks, maybe. I feel awful for anyone going through this sort of thing. When the body starts shutting down and a person's in that much pain, sometimes the best prayer is one that prays they go quickly, both for the person who's sick and the family waiting with them.
*sad sigh*
Anyway, that's what I spent most of my weekend doing, and the rest of the time I just didn't much feel like working on a hook.
Part of distracting L included a trip to the fabric store, where I bought some very pretty green and gold fabric to make a comforter cover with, since all the ones in the stores start at $50 for the plainest cotton ugly thing, and go up to much more, for not much better, equally plain covers. Why can't covers for down comforters look like actual pretty comforters? Have a little style and pizazz? So, I'm making one. :) Once the corset's finished, which it almost is. I just didn't get to it this weekend.
On a happier note, things I'm excited about this week:
New JR Ward! Butch's story! (Ok, I'd really rather have the two remaining Brothers' stories, but it's all good.)
New Anne Bishop! I didn't even know this was out, until I went to the bookstore looking for something else, and there it was, Belladonna, the sequel to Sebastian. These books aren't quite as awesome as her Black Jewels trilogy, but they are VGI (very good indeed).
After seeing all the cut tags all over my f-list, I hope to hell Tivo recorded last night's BSG, as it messed up and didn't the week before. *crosses fingers* I am excited to watch whatever has everyone reacting.
Working on my book, and getting a few thousand words closer to finishing. Yes, that is quite exciting, really. Now that I'm back into it, I really must keep writing until it's done. No stopping allowed now. I'm even going to post a progress meter again:

That's a guess-timate, the 120K. About 70% done feels right, though.
Also, this Sunday night is the Blood Ties premiere. I admit to occassionally switching the channel to Lifetime during bored moments lately, just to catch the promo again. *fans self* There's one in particular (the one they show the most) that is sexy hot.
