aka, last of the season finales for me this year. I'm pretty sure.
So, everyone and their brother got that Alias shout out, right? The fire extinguisher? In fact, that whole scene was so very similar I have to wonder if somehow

they'll bring Charlie back. I can hope, right? Cause I cried when he died. And again when Claire was worried about him, and when whatsername told Claire "Your boyfriend, what was his name? He did it!" Cause Claire doesn't know Charlie's gone.
It was a good death - although I think he had plenty of time to to have gotten out of the room before sealing it shut. The grenade had to go off, and the room had to fill up some with water before they'd have had trouble shutting/locking that stupid door. Still, it was awesome that Charlie got to be the hero, you know? He even found a way to warn Des in his final moments. *is still sad*
Ok, so confession - this is the first episode I've seen since the one where Kate and Sawyer made it back to the beach and left Jack behind. I'll probably catch up on DVD, as the finale was good enough to entice me back.
It was very obvious to me that Sawyer was protecting Kate by pushing her away - she's a smart girl, she should have figured that out herself, without Jack having to tell her. And that "Because I love you?" I don't know, haven't we gotten beyond the whole shipper thing? They've both moved on from one another, sort of. (I don't think Jack will ever quite get past seeing Kate and Sawyer on that monitor.) My interpretation of that scene was "I will always care about you, and want you to be happy, so I told you Sawyer's motivations because you're obviously unhappy."
And dude, when she basically told Sawyer she might be pregnant, and his response was so...cold and hard "You better hope to hell you're not" - I soooooo felt for her. She looked like he'd kicked her in the gut. (Yeah, that was him very effectively pushing her away. But it's not like she didn't know about Sawyer's ability to be a complete a-hole before hooking up with him.) So what did I miss, guys? Kate said something about him not being the same since...someone gave him something? I don't remember. Fill me in, oh f-list!
OMG, I actually believed along with Jack for a moment that Sayid and Jin, and...the other guy...were dead! I was SO RELIEVED to see they weren't. (So, the logical part of my brain was all "if you don't see them die, they aren't dead" but I couldn't figure why the bad guys wouldn't have killed them, and this is a season finale, yo. Bad things happen in season finales.) *pets Sayid and Jin* And Hurley got to be the most awesomest hero ever! I so felt for him when Sawyer said that - *smacks Sawyer*. But then Hurley surprised them all, didn't he? :D
A flash forward, interesting - is this setting us up for next season? Will they all be flash forwards next year? *ponders*
I'm unclear as to what is so terrible about this future where they've left the island, other than Jack is clearly an addict and suicidal. Kate looked fine. (And her "he" is Sawyer, right? And why isn't she in jail? It sounds like the airline gave them all free flights for the rest of their lives, but did Kate get pardoned, too, or something?) And who's funeral was that? See, these are all questions that lead me to believe there will be more flash fwding.
It was a good finale. Better than last season's.
BUT, I say that with a huge grain of salt. This is also somewhat scarily reminiscent of the Alias S2 finale where they fast forwarded two years. See the similarity? Fast fwd, flash fwd = huge timeline changes = possibly sinking into huge amounts of suck next season? These are the same people who did it to us w/Alias, after all!
