another one bites...well, you know
Feb. 20th, 2008 04:15 pmFor those of you who have followed my query trials and tribulations, an update:
Total queries sent: 18
Partials Requested: 1
Form Rejections: 10
Personal Rejections: 1
Non-response: 2
Still waiting to hear from: 5 (although one of those could very well be a 'not interested' by way of no response.)
New queries sent today (included in the five): 1
It's the newly revised and significantly shortened/tightened version, going something like this:
Dear [Agent Name],
[Personalized lines to let the agent know I am writing to them, personally, and not mass-e-mailing folks.] I would love for you to consider my dark fantasy/paranormal romance novel, Dark Vision, complete at 129,600 words.
Elysia, a young Romani woman, has a knack for both killing demons and seeing the future. But when her untrained Seer's gift goes awry and catapults her into a nightmarish future, Elysia must ally herself with two of the strongest demons: Demetrius, the vampire who murdered her brother, and Parr, the legendary Romani traitor who destroyed his entire clan. This alliance is their only chance to defeat the demons bent on destroying the Romani. If they fail, Elysia will be trapped in a future where her people are hunted to extinction... and the rest of humanity will be next.
Though this book stands on its own, I see it as the first in a potential series.
I have one publication credit to my name, a short story entitled One Last Adventure, published in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 6.
Thank-you for your time,
[Rhien]
A note of hope: one of the many agent blogs I read posted something today that stated at least one editor of the agent's acquaintance is " still looking for sexy vampire and werewolf stories". Which just goes to show what a subjective business this is. Yesterday, a rejection stating that vampires are a hard sell; today, an editor still looking for them. And bonus! My book has both vampires and werewolves.
