So, my new query letter seems to be successful, at least so far.  One of the three agents I've queried since revising it sent me a personal rejection today, and it was very nice.  Basically, she said she liked my sample pages, but wasn't quite as excited about them as she had hoped to be, and so she's passing. 

Even though they're rejections, the personal rejections really make me excited.  I take them to mean "close...but not quite there".  They make me want to turn around and query these agents again with Nemesis, or McClairen's book.  I just need to get them finished.  A little added incentive. :)

why finish them? send them a couple of pages of what you have and say "does this capture your attention?" at the speed you create these incredible books, by the time they get back to you, you'll be done with them anyway.

Except, these agents are fast! - both personals responded within a week of receiving the query. I doubt I could finish Nemesis in a week (though I'd love it if I could!). If they come back and say "send me the full", I'd much rather have the full all ready to send them. Plus, even though I think I know exactly how the book is going to go, it could surprise me. The last one did. I'd rather draft my query with the finished book in front of me, so there aren't any surprises. :)

good point. but why not, in your query letter, say "this is currently a work in progress. i estimate the story to be 60% finished." this lets the agents know that you're still a bubbling well of creativity and productivity (a heady mix) and that at least a partial will be available.

If it helps at all, I'm tremendously jealous and impressed that you wrote an actual BOOK for publication. I think eventually it will find a place, and if doesn't, something of yours will.
