Making all of this Egyptian coil has really driven home how cheap and inadequate my three year old $20 chasing hammer is. The head is formed of some sort of not-hard-enough steel that regularly scratches, and is so loose on the wooden handle I have to stop and tighten it after every couple of blows for fear it will go flying off. I happened upon Contenti's supply site for some drill bits, and on their front page they talked about this line of silversmith's hammers they're now carrying.

I swear, my jaw dropped. I want that planishing hammer SO. BAD. Words cannot even describe. And also the ~~large~~ small embossing hammer.

Damn, why did my birthday just go by? Every time someone asked me what I wanted, I had no idea, which resulted in a lot of gift certificates to Borders and Barnes & Noble.

ETA: Okay, I just need to step away from the website, because now I've also found pliers from Lindstrom without the obnoxious center piece that acts as a spring on my current Lindstrom pliers, but always pops out when I least want it to. Which will probably make sense to no one but me, or someone else who's used these particular pliers - which are fabulous, except for that one thing. Nevermind. My pliers are better, even with the stupid spring thing. I'll take precision and ergonomics over that any day, particularly with as much maille as I do. And apparently they designed it this way to make the springs easily replaceable, on purpose. I just need to order a bunch of them to have on hand, for when I inevitably lose them. :)
