Apr. 30th, 2008 01:56 pmI just had one of those epiphany moments while writing - I call them that because they're completely unplanned, always occur during the process, not before or while outlining or taking notes. For me, they most often take place just over the halfway point, when the last half of the book is falling into place, while I'm mentally "plotting". In the shower, driving my car, in bed at night just before I fall asleep. All those times when I'm thinking about the book, how things are laying out, and where I'm going next. And then, suddenly, wham! This totally brilliant thing will occur to me that ties back to something else I never thought of before, and almost always makes the book tighter, better, etc. Then, like dominoes, everything associated just falls into place. Dark Vision had one of those - it was so huge, so instrumental to the entire ending of the book, and for the character's personal stories, I could not imagine what the book would be without it.
I don't think this is quite that big, but you never know. It is, however, very neat and brings back an aspect from the beginning that I hadn't planned on, or anticipated. Lovely. :D
