Well. I've broken 90,000 words.

And as predicted, the book is not done. It's close. I think that 100K estimate is pretty accurate.

Anyway, to celebrate, a snippet. I am actually writing a scene from Reaper's POV. I consider this both necessary, and a sort of reward to people who've wondered what goes through his mind. LOL.

Here's a snippet to celebrate:

Reaper cut himself off from Mercy right after he told Ava to fire up the shuttle and get back to the Nemesis. He knew exactly what his Consort’s response would be. He even understood it, to a point. But now was not the time to indulge in temper.

“She’s gonna be pissed,” muttered Demon beside him. Reaper gave him a look, thinking, no shit, and, so what? And, just possibly, what business is that of yours?

Demon, he thought, still had unresolved issues about Mercy. He seemed to feel some sense of responsibility regarding her, which was fine when it didn’t involve Reaper.

Demon interpreted his look correctly, and subsided into doing his damn job and dropping the subject.

Which was smart. Reaper didn’t need to replace another dog. Losing Leech and Wolf was problematic enough. Now he was down two men when he could least afford it.

This is totally unrelated to the snippet, since I haven't read anything else, and thus wouldn't understand it-- clearly, I'm waiting for it to be published, so I can buy a copy and read it all in one breathless sitting :)-- but I have a random question. You always have awesome little icons of your characters, and it made me wonder: Do you just have a brilliant memory for actors and actresses or whatever that you run into, so when you have a new character you think, "Ah! So-and-so is the spitting image of how I was imagining this character"? Or do you go looking for your physical avatar afterwards, and if so, how/where do you usually end up finding them?

Actually, most of them are models, not actors. I don't like using someone 'recognizable' unless they are just too perfect for my mental image of a character. I page through magazines and have several online modeling sites bookmarked that I turn to when "casting" a book. I almost always come up with the character first, then find an image that matches them. On rare occasions, a picture will just be too cool, and I'll make a character to match it, but that's really infrequent.

Reaper's pic came from a Cuervo Black ad in my husband's, ahem, men's magazine. I scanned the pic and then cropped. :-)
