I am at loose ends, writing-wise. I'd love to work on that Tony/Pepper fic, but they aren't talking to me, currently. (Of course not, the novel is done. Irritating!)

I have half formed thoughts of opening a fresh Word doc and starting Consort (working title for the sequel to Nemesis). But then I'm not sure I'm ready to dive in to that big a project quite yet. And also, maybe I need to step away from Mercy's voice for a bit.

Also, I have recently though of completely overhauling Starlight & Shadow - to the point where very little would even be recognizable from the original piece. And making it YA. Except faerie seems to be the latest trend in YA urban fantasy fiction, and, hmmm, probably editors/agents aren't really looking for more in that vein. Also, I'm not sure how dark and, er, sexual it's kosher to be in YA these days. It seems to have become much more "adult" than "young" anymore, but again...hmm. Well, in my 'verse, the Aos Sí (sídhe) would be entirely inhuman - dark, deadly beautiful, but without human conscience, remorse, or feeling. And they're dying, almost gone from the world (which might not be a bad thing).

I don't know. Right now, this is just musing. Enough that I've opened up the S&S doc for the first time in...2 years. I think I could bang out a 50,000 word manuscript in the next month, and I find the idea for the overhaul of a story I never thought I would touch again intriguing.

But then, so is the idea of starting Consort.

Starlight & Shadow

I like that title. :)

I am notoriously awful at titles. But I've always loved that one.

Sadly, I don't know that it will still fit with the re-imagined version in my head. Maybe.

You know, I've been waiting more than 2 years for you to finish S&S. That's not a nudge or anything though...

Mmm, yes. *feels vaguely guilty* I am shocked by this sudden turn of events, I must admit. At the same time, I don't know how much resemblance the YA version would share with the parts you've read. :D

Speaking of, I included you on my beta list for Nemesis, but don't feel obligated. You're pretty much forever on my beta list unless you ask to be taken off. :D

I'm completely honored to be on an eternal beta babe list. And Nemesis has landed at the perfect time - the family is on vacation and tomorrow I'll be home alone with the animals while Josh goes to work in NYC. It'll be a perfect opportunity for me to cuddle up with the manuscript!

My two cents re:YA, for whatever it's worth-- since faerie's the latest trend, editors/agents are MORE likely to be looking for it (notice how much vampire YA's out there currently, and it's still coming out now). And both dark and sexual in YA are very much in vogue-- check out PC Cast's House of Night series for one that I think is pushing the boundaries in fantasy. And the last book released in the series just hit the NYT bestseller list.

I've read those! Hmmm, maybe not the latest, however. I'll have to check it out. :)

The scene where the teen main character accidentally eavesdrops on/catches a glimpse of two other characters engaged in oral sex in a hallway only a few chapters in to the first book managed to sear itself into my memory as the moment I realized YA fiction had definitely taken a bit of a turn while I wasn't looking. :)

Yes! I had exactly the same reaction!

And damn, that scene was hot without really going into details. I was impressed, and shocked all at the same time.
