A couple of things.  Sadly, my crit partner [livejournal.com profile] woodrunner is not going to be attending Norwescon this year as she had planned.  She has two pre-New Year priced memberships up for grabs over on her journal.  ie, $50 apiece instead of the door price of $60.

Criminal Minds was an exceptional episode last night.  This show is so often so very good.  In related news, I am so pleased all my shows are back. :)

I'm mid-way through S4 of Babylon 5.  I had a conversation with someone recently, trying to explain how really awesomely good this show is.  They shrugged, and said "Yeah, I've seen an episode or two.  It's okay."  To which I really wanted to grab them and shake them, and say "But you don't know.  It's like Farscape.  You can't watch an episode or three out of order and base your opinion on that.  You have to watch it from the beginning, in order."

But I didn't.  Because she wouldn't get it no matter what I said.  *sigh*

CSI: NY really does not benefit by following Criminal Minds.  It sort of highlights the glaring differences in quality of story and writing between the two shows.

Did you notice who directed last night's CM? Hint: see icon.

I thought he did a great job but not in a show-offy way, intrusive-direction sort of way.

I have attempted to watch Babylon 5 once, but I had trouble accessing episodes and it didn't seem to be the right time. I tried again several months later when it felt right, but again, couldn't access the movie and didn't want to start watching the show. I'm curious about anything anyone compares to Farscape. My love for that show is epic and really, it is my favorite show of all time. It's hard for anything to compete. So, I think I might give it another go and see if I can find the episodes. :)

It is really important that you watch in a particular order! I am considering colelcting the DVDs myself. If that happens, I'd be happy to lend them to you. And this is my personal progression for watching the show:

Pilot movie, entitled The Gathering: "Hmm, okay, well it's interesting, and the characters aren't bad. It's a pilot, so you can't judge too much anyway. I'll keep watching."

S1: Well, there are fun and quirky characters. It has its moments, but these are somehwat tempered by some bad and cheesy times, kinda like Buffy and Angel can be. It's not bad, I like certain characters, I'll keep watching.

S2: OMG, this show is by turns hilarious (in a good way) and wait, what's this sudden turn from fun, laid back, and quirky, to serious and dramatic and occasionally AWESOME??? It's like S1 was all set up and backstory, and S2 plunges you into the meat of the story.

S3: Why are the DVDs not here yet? I must find out what happens!! Must have DVDs!!!!!! Once received, I mainlined them in a week.

S4: Halfway done now. Freaking awesome. I worry for my favorite characters. How much more can they take? OMG, who is going to die next? (Much like Farscape, this show is not afraid of killing people.)

Sounds like it's something I'd enjoy, definitely. Thank you for the offer, but seeing as I'm in Bangladesh for at least the next few months, that probably won't work out. I will try to find alternative sources. :)

OMG, I know I'm a total soft touch when CM deals with mommies and kids ANYWAY (see also the tears during '100'), but gods, I was biting my lip for the last five minutes of last night's CM. The show just KILLS me.
And JJ is my hero. gods, I love her.

aw, that's too bad about your friend not watching B5, especially if they liked Farscape, I'd think B5 is even easier to get into not being quite as 'alien' in mindset or structure. but yeah, some people can't be persuaded.

Sorry, what was that? I was totally distracted by your icon. What is it about badass men holding babies? LOVES.

Yeah, I cried watching CM last night. You knew it was going to be bad when Amy asked how many kids there were, and was told only four. And then in the end, there was only three. :(

I *always* think that about CSI: NY. As CM minds is coming to an end (the only show I watch in real time, bc I just can't bare to wait) and the CSI commercials start up... I have to shake my head in that condescending older sibling sort of way and go "awww, that's so cute and melodramatic and needy."

Yeah. It's a good idea: lead in to the not so strong show with a really strong one. Not so good when the disparity in quality is that obvious, and that huge!

And really, NY has so much that could be going for it. (Gary Sinise! I mean come on.) But wow, cringe-worthy writing.

You have to watch it from the beginning, in order.

B5 is a show that really rewards completists. :)
