If I am not posting lately, it isn't because I'm being lazy about my LJ.  I'm sewing like a madwoman to get everything done before Norwescon next weekend.

The first of the hats for our wicked fairy (by way of Sleeping Beauty) costumes:

Ignore my lovely "I've-sewn-all-day" haggard appearance.  Our costumes are being made of dupioni silk in three gorgeous colors.  This is the blue fairy's hat.  The tulle hasn't been added to it yet.  Here's a pic of it wrapped haphazardly around it.  It's going to be pinned in place by a button with a skull on it!  Hee hee. :D

Don't mind me.  I have to dive back into more frantic sewing.  I'll be around more frequently again after Norwescon! :D

All three colors are equally gorgeous. They're each "frosted" with a bit of a pearlized look. It makes it hard to actually cut into the silk in order to sew it! :D

I didn't wantt o post too OT in corsetmakers so i traveled to your personal journal :)

Any tips for hatmaking? your hats are amazing, i'm in love! I have tried to make a few pointy hats to match other sewing projects, with wire, without wire, etc... none of them look even 1/2 as nice as yours!

so, any tips = love! ty!

Thank you! :) These were made with Butterick pattern 5406 (hats for Halloween). I didn't like much of their directions, so we pretty much made up our own.

First, instead of floppy interfacing or poster board (which they wanted to use for the "cone" part) we used the super thick interfacing from Joanns. I believe it is $7.99/yard.

Actually, I took some construction pics, I think. I could probably post a brief tutorial if you'd like.

you would be my hero if you supplied a tutorial! <3 well, you already are, i kinda love those hats that much! i'll have to give super mega interfacing another try... last time i used it (non-hat related project), it just went horribly wrong. i'll have to look for that pattern also, might be helpful to compare it to my crazy drafting attempts :)

On the inferfacing: yes, I normally hate interfacing. But see, I don't actually use it as such here. I mean, I don't iron it to my fabric, turning my fabric into some kind of weird armory stuff. :D
