Quick update before I run off to dinner.

I've updated the Inventory Sale post to indicate what's sold and what's still available. There is still time to get one of these great deals!

In fannish news, I've picked up Flashpoint from Netflix instant watch. It's this awesome serious show about a sort of Canadian version of SWAT, but somehow it manages to approach it from this emotional place where I'm crying like every other episode. As the title suggests, the stories are about regular people who reach this place where they feel like they have no other choice. It's not just the bad guy with a gun, it's people on the worst day of their lives, hitting rock bottom and reacting in the worst possible way. Then the SRU comes in and tries to end things with the least loss of life possible.

Now, I've actually talked to a guy who worked LA SWAT (and was military special forces before that), and it is not an easy job. This is the kind of job that eats people up, destroys marriages, and leaves them haunted by nightmares and flashbacks. Mark briefly considered going in that direction at one time, and this guy, we'll call him "Mike" told him not to. He was like "If you want a marriage and a family, don't do it. Find some nice job like teaching instead." And Mark did.

This show does a great job of showing just how stressful this job is, and the effects it can have. The stories have this very real quality to them, because none of the characters are cardboard cut outs. It's very clear that there are no "bad guys" - just people. I highly recommend giving it a watch if you have Netflix.

Oh, it's a great show with great writers and great actors. I don't think I've missed many of them since they aired.

Yeah, it really is! I'm totally going to tie my husband down and make him watch this one!

Yeah, I stayed up WAY too late last night just so I could watch more episodes. It is really, really good. But you do get emotionally involved in what's happening, even with people who have only been introduced for one episode. The writing and acting are really well done.
