Photoshop-ish question: when one is making a banner, similar to the one above my journal right now, how does one blend the various pictures together, make the lines between them invisible, so to speak. Brushes, textures, opacity? Extracting elements and then inserting them into the banner?

The easiest way to do it is to overlap one picture slightly over the other, then use the round airbrush eraser at about 50% opacity to erase the hard lines. Use the airbrush on a layer mask instead of the original picture; white foreground color to 'erase'(cover up, actually), black foreground to uncover.
