Save yourselves. Avoid the travesty that is The Brothers Grimm at all costs. Ok, maybe travesty is too strong a word. There were a couple of cool moments , like how much Monica Belluci(sp?) rocked as the Evil Queen. If they ever do a live action movie theater version of Snow White, I nominate her. That being said, they could have removed everything to do with the french army. What purpose did any scene they were in have, except "WTF"? For instance:

-- WTF was the guy w/the Russian accent from every Michael Bay film ever doing playing a French soldier with a Russian accent? And WTF purpose did his character serve beyond dragging the movie into complete and utter absurdity every time he was in a scene? and not just absurdity, but pointless grotesque absurdity? Case in point:

-- WTF was the point of having the cutest kitten ever kicked by the crazy Russian/French soldier into the Fan of Torture to be chopped into horrifying kitten pieces? And then to have the General lick one of the kitten pieces for no apparent reason (clearly his character was insane on many, many levels)? WTF, people?! I am a cat person! I was traumatized!

-- WTF was the director going for in this movie? Was he trying to be Tim Burton without Tim Burton's skill to make the creepy and morbid work? I just don't get it!

Clearly, I am still traumatized. Must go scrub brain. *twitches*

Any good Ronan/Teyla fic out there? *searches briefly* No? Dear Lord, I need something to cleanse my creative palate. I'd write some, but I'm afraid my less-than-thorough knowledge of the SGA universe would detract. Hmmm. Who needs complete knowledge of the creative universe in question for smut, right? That's what fan sites are for. They have tons of backstory/technical info.

sadly, terry gilliam was making movies long, long before tim burton. they're actually close friends, i believe. he's a member of the original cast of monty python, if that helps you understand his odd sense of humor any better. don't get me wrong, i lovelovelove tim. i want to have his babies.

also, cavaldi was italian. an italian soldier with an italian accent. speaking italian words with an italian name. and after the general shoots him, he say something like 'italian never agrees with me.'

Hmm. Ok. His accent sounded Russian to me. But then most of the time I couldn't understand what he was saying.

I laugh at Monty Python, but I didn't laugh through most of this movie. I suppose I might not have been the right target audience, but as someone who usually loves Burton, and is also a huge lover of both fantasy and fairy tales, I find it hard to imagine who his target audience was, if not me.

Maybe The Corpse Bride will make me forget all about this experience. I was disappointed not to get a preview for it in front of this film.
