What sort of relationship do you think Telya has with Elizabeth? The show gives us almost zero down time glimpses, and they are both leaders, negotiators, and women who work closely together in a job surrounded by lots of men. I would think this would lead to a friendship of some sort just by default.

Thoughts? Both women have addressed Sheppard as "John" casually, though Elizabeth more than Teyla, making it obvious that they both have a friendship with him (I'm just talking canon here, not speculation into what else either woman might have with John!) But I can't remember if Teyla has ever addressed Elizabeth by her first name or if she's always used the more formal "Dr. Weir".

In the end, I can do whatever I want, but I like taking the hints we get in canon and giving them life, so to speak.

I can only remember Teyla refering to Elizabeth as Doctor Weir but I could be wrong on that!

I don't think there has ever been anything to show they have the same sort of friendship that they both have with John.

I believe she's only called Elizabeth by her title. I'd love to see these two form some kind of friendship, but I doubt they're entirely there yet. She seems to respect the leadership hierarchy and because John and Elizabeth are both her immediate boss and leader of Atlantis, respectively, she addresses them as such, which is by title/rank. I think she started calling Rodney and Carson by their first names a lot sooner and more often because they're more or less equals with her, team-wise. While she has some kind of friendship with John, I don't think she ever called him by his name until he told her to in "Conversion," and even then, she was uncomfortable with the idea until he amended the order for instances when they're off-duty... which are the only times she's done it, except when she needed to get his attention. Elizabeth seems to be always on-duty, which might make Teyla uncomfortable addressing her so informally. Or, um, something? At the end of "Intruder," they did seem like they were getting ready for some girl talk before they were interrupted.

And that was my really long rambling response just to say that I don't think Teyla's ever said "Elizabeth" before. Heh.

I'll have to re-watch the end of Intruder when I get home...I can't seem to recall it.

Kept reading and nodding; well-observed (far as I can remember. *g*) By the way, Pooh -- I saw your Sheppard vid Kryptonite after it won in the Vid Awards -- congratulations, it's really cool.

Rien, I don't think Elizabeth and Teyla have a fraction of the relationship they could have if the writers weren't sitting on their asses and ignoring lots of lovely potential storylines for the women.

That said, my take -- also in a writerly capacity, as I am writing this story with auburnnothenna -- is that both women are quietly awed and a little intimidated by the other; this wouldn't be that much of a problem if one of them was unguarded and expressive (take Rodney as the most extreme example, obviously), but both are extremely friendly, polite, and souvereign people who, when it comes to their *personal* life, play their cards pretty close to the Atlantis-emblazoned vest. As I said, they definitely like each other but haven't really found a way to approach each other yet in a less professional setting -- or if they have, we can't see traces of it on the show because they are good at just slipping their public masks back on...
