Today's project: buy a journal specifically for keeping track of my exercise regime, food intake, and inches. I'm not going to worry so much about pounds, because our scale sucks and isn't very accurate, and because I'd rather keep track of clothing size loss. :) (I'm currently a size 12, 10 if I squeeze myself into the jeans. Hard to believe I was once a size 7!) I'm also not going to get too scientific about my diet. I don't believe in starving my body, or depriving it of any and all fat/sugar. (Besides, I've learned that doing so only makes me fail that much sooner. My sweet tooth must be occassionally catered to.)

Last week was more "get used to using the bike" week. This week I'm going to keep more rigid control over the resistance, time, target heart rate, ect. This morning was a thirty minute workout, and I feel really good. I figure the first of the month is a good time to start measuring and keeping track of all my various inches, too. And yes, I'll probably end up weighing myself. *sigh* I just don't want to get too focused on the scale. Maybe it's time to buy a better one.

I think you're right not to focus on the scale too much--what you fit into and how you feel while you're working out is a far better way to gauge your progress, especially if you're gaining any muscle while losing weight.

Also, if I haven't said this five billion times over, I very much like meals that that combine protein, fat, and fiber, all in moderation. I find that fiber literally fills my stomach, and the combination of protein and fat goes a long way toward keeping me satisfied. In general, I'd be much more concerned about not overdoing sugar consumption (only because it seems like a lot of people have that problem). My younger brother recently stopped drinking soda (which is huge--no one in my family cares about diet), and has lost quite a few pounds just from that. Even he was surprised. ;)
