Aug. 2nd, 2004 09:47 amOk, so I finished my S2 LFN DVDs, and I'm now praying like mad that they come out with season's 3, 4 and 5. But especially season 3. I have to admit, it isn't the best written show ever. For witty reparte and excellent characterization, I'm far more in favor of Firefly and Farscape, for example. But the show does have something unique to itself, a kind of less dialogue = more intrigue kind of allure. The characters don't always say much, but much is conveyed for story and relationships with a look. I have to say that the disguises Sydney employs on Alias are much more interesting. That's one of the things I've always looked forward to on that show, what Syd's going to look like for her next mission. And JG always looks good, somehow, no matter what costume or wig is employed. Nikita pretty much always looks like Nikita, whatever wig they might be using -- which isn't often. She's almost always just herself. That being said, Michael is at least half of the show, and there is nothing on any spy drama that I've seen that can match the Michael/Nikita dynamic. I mean, they sort of get together at the very beginning of S2, but instead of killing the ST and making the 'ship nauseating, they manage to keep things interesting for the next four seasons! Kudos to them, I say. I'm more than willing to ignore certain plot holes and "things that would never really happen" for the things I really enjoy about the show.
I'm pretty sure I'm breaking down and getting S1 at Best Buy today, if they have it.
Also, I borrowed my friend's Buffy DVDs, and I'm re-watching S1. *sigh* I'd almost forgotten the deep, abiding, and near-obssessive love I have for this show. After having just watched Firefly recently, S1 Buffy is very obviously a younger Joss. The writing isn't quite as polished, the witty dialogue sometimes falls a little flat, the plots are cheesier. But it is still great in its own right, and I can see the beginnings of the true greatness that is Joss-to-be. And I'm thoroughly enjoying the brand new-ness of Buffy/Angel all over again. These, too, are DVDs I must acquire.
