My sister, who lives about an hour and a half away from me in a northerly direction, has had roughly four inches of white fluffy stuff for the past couple of days. Most of Portland was shut down yesterday, thus she stayed home (sensibly) while her husband took his life into his hands (people drive crazy in the white stuff up there) and went to work. But they're good and fine, and it's supposed to warm up today.

We, too, were mostly shut down after our three day weekend, but not for anything remotely fun, like snow. We got freezing rain, and then about an inch of white fluffy stuff on top of that, followed by cold temperatures and clear skies. And since we live on a hill that's roughly 4-500 feet higher than the rest of town, our hill was worse than everywhere else. Even Mark's parents, who live less than a mile from us, but about 200 feet lower in elevation, got less of the ice and snow than we did. Mark ended up using his truck (with chains on) to tow one of our neighbors and her Honda up our hill when she got stranded after nearly sliding into one of the lamp posts.

Yes, fun times. *sigh* I am of the firm belief that if it's going to be cold and treacherous out, it ought to at least be a little fun, and give us enough snow to play in, rather than this ice crap. I didn't get in to work today until after 11:00, because even though the rest of town has thawed out, out hill has not. Even waiting until eleven, I slid down the slope of driveway to get to the street. We'll see if it's thawed enough for me to get back up it by the time I leave work today.

I guess it makes for a nicely short work week, at least.
