Good morning, everyone!
May. 21st, 2007 07:43 amMy train tickets for a Writer's Weekend are purchased. One less thing on my to-do list. :) I spent the extra $26 to upgrade to business class. I figure, what the heck - it's only $26, and its a five hour+ train ride. I have no idea what business class on a train really means, though. Hopefully more leg room, at least. :D
I spent my weekend doing odds and ends around the house. L was sick, some nasty bug her son caught and brought home to her, so no sewing for us - I didn't want to get exposed by going to her place, and she didn't feel up to it, anyway. Saw Next and Shrek the Third both. Non-spoilery thoughts:
Next - they could have spent a few more dollars on the special effects - you could tell a bit too easily when the actors were working w/ a blue screen, or green screen, or whatever they call it. But it was a good story, with an ending that surprised me. There was one major story hole, but other than that, I quite enjoyed it.
Shrek the Third - This feels more like a continuation of the second movie than a complete third movie to me. I think it will improve some by watching it back-to-back with the previous film. Not to say that this one wasn't funny, it was - but it was one of those sequels that is funny because it relies on things from the previous movies a bit too much. I would probably recommend renting vs. paying theater prices, unless you have kids that just have to see it.
I tried to talk Mark into getting an 'upgrade pack' for our Tivo, giving it 300 hours of recording time vs the 80 we have now. His response: "Why don't we just get a second Tivo for the bedroom?" So, not doing it yet, but probably before the new Fall schedule starts, we'll be getting el Tivo numero two - this one won't have a DVD burner like our family room unit has, but it will record dual channels, yay! I should never have to choose between one show or another again. Also, it will allow me to pause live TV, give me show info, and let me transfer shows between Tivo units when I'm relegated to the bedroom, those times when Mark's monopolizing the family room with his Xbox. I don't realize how much I miss the simple features of pausing and getting instant "this is what you're watching" info until I'm stuck w/our bedroom TV. I have been spoiled by Tivo, and now understand why people have multiple units for multiple televisions.
Though, I still want to get an upgrade for our family room unit. To have the ability to not delete a single episode of a favorite show until the season is over would be very nice.
On a final note, from now til....forever, I'm getting up early to go to work an hour earlier than usual. So I can build up comp time for the days I'm going to be taking off this summer. (For things like WW, taking Mark to the airport when he flies to Japan, our camping trip, etc) Ugh. Some days I'll probably only work an extra half hour, vs. a full hour. But still. This getting up before 6:00am stuff sucks.
