Back from Camping
Aug. 21st, 2007 04:14 pmThe good thing about getting away from the real world for awhile is...well, getting away from the real world! No pesky phones, or e-mail, or bills, or work, or a thousand other stresses associated with everyday life. Nothing but sitting around a campifure with friends, roasting hotdogs and making s'mores and relaxing.
Well, until the heavens decide to open up and torrentially downpour on your relaxing time at 3:00 in the morning on your second night away! Ahem. Rain = not so fun when camping! Whatever, rain! So, when it showed no sign of stopping by 9:30 that morning, we packed everything up, headed home, and played the new Saga Edition of Star Wars RPG in the nice, dry house, whilst eating the rest of our camping food and pretending we weren't really home, by ignoring things like the computer, phone, etc.
It was fun, though rather less like camping (no campfire, or s'mores).
The bad thing about getting away from the real world for a few days, is coming back to it and feeling like you're behind on everything. *sigh*
Also, there were twenty e-mails waiting for me in my inbox. Some of them were junk. Some were fun things from friends that I need to respond to. One was an e-mail from another beta reader (YAY!), who had mostly good things to say about the novel. It came as a complete surprise, as I wasn't expecting to hear back from this person, well, ever. It makes my third generally very positive response from people not personally invested in or related to me. This is all very encouraging. Especially when I keep finding vampire books to read lately that, while fun and excellent to read, also give me a real inferiority complex. Why didn't I think of doing that [really cool thing] with my vampires?? And other thoughts of similar type. Don't worry. I'm sure I'll get over it. These sorts of highs and lows are normal, right? Right?
I'm sure they must be.
OH! And I have a couple of title contenders! Hmm:
Dark Vision (sort of romance-y sounding, but then, the book definitely has romantic elements.)
Shuv'hani (the gypsy name for seer - I was trying to avoid using words that made people wonder how to pronounce them, but this has gotten a surprising number of votes so far. This would mean the next book's title would be "Vyusher" (the word for wolf)).
