Jane + more writing ramblings
Aug. 28th, 2007 11:08 amI'm going to see Becoming Jane tomorrow night w/L! Yay. :) When they first released this as a 'limited release' I was worried - limited means it'll never come near my town. I haven't heard anything about this movie one way or the other, review-wise, but it almost doesn't matter. Jane Austen! My husband will never understand, but my girlfriends and I rewatch P&P every year. I own nearly every movie version of her books, I've read them all, and I am so excited to be seeing this movie! *Glee*
Compiling the list of agents I'm planning to query Shuv'hani to is nerve wracking. I started with ones I'm familiar w/online via their blogs or Cons I've been to, searching out their submission guidelines, their author lists, etc, and as an example, I'm taking notes on one and discover she's Anne Bishop's agent. Anne Bishop! And Jim Butcher! She also represents several other authors I like a great deal, and I had no idea! I'm suddenly a billion times more nervous about sending her my query. I don't know why. It doesn't change anything. I'm still going to query something like 20 agents and count myself lucky if any of them ask to see more. But seeing names like that on an author list somehow makes me both excited and super nervous.
At this point, I'm really just hoping the word "vampire" won't completely turn off all the agents. I keep hearing how they're all tired of seeing vampire fiction. I don't really consider Shuv'hani vampire fiction, exactly, but...anyway, I'm trying not to get discouraged before I even get the queries sent off. I'm trying not to agnoize too much over every single word of my query. It's done. Leave it alone.
But it really sucks, how much rides on them being intrigued at all by that query. I know why it's necessary, but it still sucks. *sigh*

Date: 2007-08-29 04:49 pm (UTC)Oh, and look at this! Masterpiece Theater is apparently doing a special broadcast of a version of each of her books in 2008. *Must remember to program Tivo when this happens*
Huh. I am unfamiliar w/that version of MP, NA, P, and S&S. I must investigate this.
