Hmm. I am struggling more with this rewrite than I thought I would. I am now debating "overhauling" the existing two chapters rather than completely rewriting them.

I wish those first paragraphs weren't so damn crucial. I find myself agonizing over every line instead of just writing.

I feel your pain. I'm struggling getting out my first draft. My instinct is to edit as I go, but I know I just have to keep going or I'll never finish.

I think if all I had to do was edit, I'd be fine. The problem is, the rest of the novel feels so different to me from those first two chapters, I feel like I have to rewrite them. And the rewrite, which I foolishly thought would be easy, isn't. *sigh*

Though you are struggling, I urge you to keep doing what you're doing! It took me four or five "failed" novels to learn that lesson and finally finish one by just writing, no editing (beyond a quick read through edit of scenes as I finished them).

I'm taking that to heart. But right now I've hit a wall and I'm asking myself, "Is what my character doing plausible?"
