Weekend update

My new boots are awesome! I'd forgotten how comfy that Doc Martens sole really can be, even with a 2 1/4 inch heel. They do need breaking in, as the leather upper rubs on my little toes just enough to give me blisters right now. But even with the heel, my feet hurt less after a day of wearing the not-yet-broken-in boots than they do when I wear my two-year-old loafers for the day. I can see that once they are properly broken in, the Docs will become my most comfortable winter shoe. No surprise, really. I had a pair of Docs years ago that I wore for probably about seven years - until the sole was worn down to the point where the boots were no longer comfortable, and the scarred leather upper was no longer in good enough shape to qualify for regular wear. I retired them, and got some sort of stylish fashion boots instead. I was tired of the eyelet look.
Now I can have the best of both worlds - stylish boots that are Docs! And my jeans fit over them perfectly, so I can wear them with skirts or jeans. I feel my money was very well spent. I need to acquire some of that Doc leather care stuff, though. It works amazingly well, if memory serves.
Other highlights of the weekend included a trip up to Powell's books (largest or second largest [used and new] bookstore in the US, takes up an entire city block, subtitled "Powell's City of Books"). We entered with more books than we left with, which is always the goal with Powells. While there, I discovered that P. N Elrod had somehow come out with a Jack Fleming novel and I missed it, Song in the Dark - according to the inside cover flap, it's been out there and available since 2005! How is this possible?? I even wondered if perhaps I had read it, and just didn't remember, but no. I'm several chapters in, and can say with utter confidence that I have not yet read this one. I'm still puzzled, but also excited, because I love Jack. :)
I also picked up the computer game Guild Wars. Mark and I had decided that Saturday was an "us" day - we used it to drive up to Portland and go to places like Powell's and Frye's Electronics. (We also went out to dinner and saw the absolutely awful 3:10 to Yuma - seriously, save your time and money. How do amazing actors end up doing such terrible movies? Do they read the script and think "Hey, I'll do this, because even though it's awful, they'll pay me a lot of money to do it!" Just curious.) Anyway, I picked up Guild Wars at Fryes. Why, I'm not sure. I have no idea when I'll have time to actually play it, but hey, now I have the opportunity. Course, I haven't played Oblivion in over a year, but I will, damn it!
*misses computer gaming*
*sigh*
On Sunday, Jess came over and gave us much needed massages. Ow. I mean really, ow! She did some deep tissue work on my shoulders and back, especially the lower back, where she thinks some of my hip problems are coming from. Now everything is sort of achy and bruised and owie. But she did work out a lot of things for me. My doctor told me I needed regular massage to help me avoid migraines, but for some reason, a migraine almost always strike me the night after I get a massage. I'm not sure why, but sure enough, at midnight I woke up almost crying from the pain. I took four ibuprofen and had to get a heat pad to lay on my head. Maybe when she works out all the kinks and tight spots, it changes things just enough to trigger the headache, I don't know.
I'm better now, but also feeling tired and blah today, as I so often do after a migraine.

Date: 2007-09-17 04:18 pm (UTC)I got my first pairs of Docs last month (mary janes and 5 eye boots), and they are chewing the heck out of my ankles, but eventually I'll have them broken in (and won't have to use bandaids over the blisters ;))
Enjoy!

Date: 2007-09-17 05:39 pm (UTC)The boots are nice, but the wet season is coming in, so I've been sticking to the mary janes and crosstrainers I got for now.

Date: 2007-09-17 06:58 pm (UTC)I'm assuming that if the doc thinks that massage will help that they are tension/stress based migraines, and regular massage would reduce the incidences, but if it's not often enough, I can see how you'd get a rebound migraine.
Glad she worked on your lower back & hips. :) Should help with the short leg thing.
I still need to get my pirate boots. Lots of stuff to get done in a short time. :D
