I am highly, highly amused. And nostalgic.

Once upon a time, before Rhien ever knew what fandom was, really, she watched a series of anime called Gundam Wing with her husband. Now, we are not huge anime buffs. For the most part, we find them amusing and sort of the same. But the husband is a HUMUNGUOUS ROBOTECH GEEK OMG! Like, you have no idea. His Robotech love might even surpass his Transformers love, and that is almost not possible. Almost. So, when a friend said "you have to watch these" and lent us Gundam Wing, we watched. And laughed, and got confused, and laughed some more, and got more confused, and overall decided that every character on the show was freaking crazy and/or stupid, but that was part of the crack, you see. We watched it all the way to the end. Mark enjoyed the gundams and the battles, I enjoyed how hot Zechs was, and we both laughed at many of the lines and enjoyed the characters. (Duo, if memory serves, had the best lines. He was also pretty good at calling the other characters on their batshit craziness.)

I haven't thought of GW in years. YEARS. And then I recently friended [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, and it turns out she and one of her f-listers are watching it. Oh, the memories their entries have called up. It almost makes me want to find the series and rewatch them all. Oh, the angst! The unending, overly dramatic, torturous angst! It truly made the series cracktastic.

Plus, in case I didn't mention it, Zechs was hot. HOT. For, you know, an anime character. And he and Noin had some sort of doomed, starcrossed love that wasn't really doomed or starcrossed, yet managed to be just as angst filled.

*sigh*

Somewhere, I am almost embarrassed to admit, there is fic. Hmmm. I wonder where? That's like....two computers ago, at least. I wonder if I still have it on disc.

Meanwhile, I will live vicariously through the recaps of others. Wish I could remember some of Duo's better lines.

I admit, I looked it up on Amazon - the whole series can be had for under $100. *ponders*

Looks like you can netflix Gundam Wing. :)

Weirdest anime series I ever watched all the way through was "Revolutionary Girl Utena".

Now that was wacky. Also, no tentacles, or robots.

I am remembering something about RGU...something vague-ish. Man. One of my old gaming group used to collect anime and loved it, and most of my exposure came through him. I may have seen it, for it is vaguely and insistently familiar.
