Dudes, I gave up at skip=300 for catching up.

Possibly at least partially because a non-LJ cut spoiled me pretty big for the episode of BSG I still haven't had time to watch. *le sigh* Cut tags, people, please?

My weekend in a bullet list:

~ Took a two day, sixteen hour class on silversmithing. It was intensive and unfortunately had two mean tempered fellow classmates, one of them also completely batshitcrazy - like, you have no idea. However, the class itself was awesome, and now I will be producing (once I get my new, hotter burning torch) stuff that I will actually feel is good enough to sell with heat and silver.

It was interesting, because soldering has been so very frustrating for me. Don, the silversmith who taught the class, would say things like "all the books and probably 95% of the silversmiths out there will tell you to do it this one way - and I'm going to tell you that's all crap, it's totally wrong, and it doesn't work." And you know what? He was so right! All of the problems I've been having have resulted from trying to do it the way everyone tells you to. But trying it Don's way actually worked for me, and words cannot describe how happy that makes me.

~ In the midst of taking this class, my sister came down to do some sewing. She and L sewed during the day while I was at class, then we all worked on our Regency gowns once I got home. Until 4:30 in the morning.

Possibly that piece of chocolate cake and coffee at 11:00pm was a bad idea.

I got up for day #2 of the silversmithing class on about three hours of sleep. When I was twenty, or even twenty-five, this would not have been a problem. But now? Cannot function on that little sleep, at least not well. I spent all of Sunday feeling hungover and ill, and batshitcrazy lady did not help matters at all. However, it was absolutely an invaluable experience, and I cannot wait to fire up a torch and start making my own stuff.

~ Mark was gone all weekend, and flew home late Sunday night. Monday we spent together, recovering from our respective weekends, and going to see Defiance (good movie).

~ Then, yesterday morning we woke up to a fridge/freezer that didn't work, and anywhere from $400-1000 worth of food on the brink of being lost (we have a quarter of a grass fed steer in our freezer in hamburger and steaks. That alone is $340 worth of meat). I called a repairman, then spent half the day cleaning house while waiting around for him, wondering if I should just pack everything up and take it to Mom and Dad's house and their freezer. In the end, the fridge/freezer is fixed and everything was salvageable. But I only got to work for about 2 and a half hours.

~ Then, last night we found out some pretty unhappy family related news I can't go into right now. Suffice to say, this weekend was kind of one long list of hits that just kept coming, and now I'm feeling totally out of it and behind. I didn't even remember that yesterday was the inauguration until halfway through the day.

But from here, the rest of the week has to get better, right? Or at least less exhausting.

i enjoyed my silversmithing class i took several years ago. i lost the pin i made (the first time i wore it out *grumble grumble*) but i still have the pendant (it isn't as pretty as the pin was, but i'm still proud of it) sometimes i debate taking another class. you might push me into that briar patch. (-: i'd love to make bezels and stuff for my own gems.

You got spoiled? Oh craptastic! I'm curious which one, but I don't want to spoil anyone else.

I detest when people spoil shows for everyone! I managed to see BSG, but was disheartened to immediately see spoiler status updates on both MySpace and Facebook.

Stay away from NBC if you can, their promos are showing spoilers from the last episode.

*hugs*

Boo on spoilers. I don't watch BSG, but I remember being spoilt for one of the Harry Potter books in the subject line of one of my flister's posts. I was so so so pissed.

Silversmith classes sound amazing. And I'm glad you learned useful stuff! Your teacher sounds awesome.

Are you going to post pics of the gowns when your done?? I so want to see them.

And the fridge thing sucks. I have a really bad story about a deer pelt and a freezer, but I'll spare you the details, since I've learned it's not exactly as funny as I think it is. :-/

I'm glad your week has improved, but it sounds like it's been a rough one! ::hugs::
