Everything sucks right now.
Sep. 23rd, 2014 09:19 amNot everything, of course. It just feels that way.
So....I hate my job. This is the only place I can reasonably vent about it online, and...it just keeps getting worse. The accountant hates me and thinks I'm incompetent. This attitude has bent the ear of the owner of the company (what the accountant wants, the accountant gets), who now "doesn't want to add to my plate" and so gave new responsibilities and a raise that should have gone to me, to my assistant instead. Who now has adopted the attitude that she gets to interefere in what I am already doing, and yesterday got in my face about one of my processes and tried to force me to change to what she thinks I should do. Uh, no. I am not going to use your INSANE checklist to process transactions. I have my own. It works great for me. It is simple, and readable, and I didn't have to use size 8 font to fit everything onto two pages. Yours is, as I stated, INSANE. Just no.
I should add that my direct boss loves me and is happy with the way I do things. And also, the assistant added all kinds of responsbility, but didn't up her hours, so she is still part time, no longer has time to get her crap done, and instead of telling me something didn't get done, she just doesn't do it, and then agents get pissed off because a listing didn't go live when a client expected it to, or they aren't getting their check when they expect to. And I find out when they are already pissed.
Ugh. I just...every single day sucks. I've been looking for a new job, but I really want it to use my degrees, and this is whole other kettle of fish that is horrible. So, my Masters in Teaching and Learning w/Technology did not include a certification path. And Oregon, apparently, requires you to have a Masters program that includes teaching certification. I can't just get the certification separately, or through another means in this state. I took a sick day and went up to talk to the people at the licensing commision about it, and my options are:
1. Take a whole new Master program, with a certification path. Two more years and $20,000.
2. Get certified somehow in another state, and transfer that certification in through reciprocity.
My husband, the teacher, assumed my program included it. I assumed I could just go take the tests and get certified. We were both wrong, and now I am stuck. I even have a great contact to get a job teaching at an online academy - to do my student teaching with them, which would make me much more desirable to hire than a teacher from a traditional classroom that has no idea how to teach in an online environment. And getting certified in another state is not as easy as one might think, but it still may be the least expensive, least time consuming option.
I have seriously spent a week calling everyone on the planet who might offer a certification program, beating my head against brick wall after brick wall, and crying frustrated tears.
So yeah, everything sucks. :(

Date: 2014-09-23 05:09 pm (UTC)Have you looked at university-level jobs? A lot of time they want people with education backgrounds for certain developing technology/online teaching program positions (most likely at an admin/staff level), but a teaching certification isn't required.
Another option might be teaching at a private school--a lot of them don't require certification.

Date: 2014-09-23 05:19 pm (UTC)As for the Masters programs without a certification path, there are a depressing number of them. Apparently it is on the student to do due diligence and make sure it is included.
