So, Valentine's Day. Being poor, me and the hubby were just going to spend the day together at home, play some games or watch some movies or something. Then we got a card in the mail from his parents, with a check in it and the words "Your first Valentine's as a married couple should be spent out in a romantic evening together. We know money is tight right now, so this is our Valentine's gift to you."

So, we went and had a wonderful prime rib dinner and saw the movie Miracle, which was really, really good. Seriously, see it in the theater. We avoided 50 First Dates because, well, it was the date movie for VD, and we don't like Adam Sandler enough to brave that crowd.

Course, I have to catch some stupid cold Friday, so by the time we were eating that prime rib last night, I could barely taste it. *sigh* Oh, well. It was still good. :)

In other news, for the first time in eleven years, I have cut my hair. As in, not just a trim to clean up split ends, but cut. Instead of being halfway down my back, it now barely brushes my shoulders. Kind of scary, but much better all the same. So much easier to style. And it's cute. Of course, the lady who cut it kept saying "makes you look younger!" as if I wanted to hear that. Hello??? I'm not even 30 yet! Don't tell me it makes me look younger! But maybe at 29 I'm supposed to start hearing stuff like that. *sigh*

Congratulations!! I envy you!! After 15 years of marriage, I've learned that some things shouldn't be undertaken, and haircuts are one of them. It's not worth a year of "well, you cut it!" every time I can't get something to curl the right direction. On the up-side, I've discovered THE FLATTENING IRON - or whatever that thing is - so at lest I can wash and dry it at night after my workout and then just straighten out the miscellaneous strands of a morning. Saves loads of time, looks better, and it's actually straight!

As for looking younger - please, enjoy it! I used to feel the same way - haven't been carded since I was maybe 16 , and then I'd turn around and complain about pimples. But now, at 35, when the eyes are looking a little wrinkeled and I look in the mirror to see not my mother - but my FATHER - well, It would sure be nice to turn back that clock. I don't think even a haircut will do it, but losing 20 pounds has helped . Thank heavens for Mary Kay .

I don't mind getting older - there's a lot to be said for experience - but I've seen my sisters and they scare me! Nice women - mostly - but my father's face makes a better man than a woman, and I so don't want to wind up looking all puffy and wrinkly in the wrong places. Vanity? Hell yes!! But I just don't FEEL old.

So enjoy your youth - trust me, you won't have it for long. My oldest would be driving this year if he were the average kid... he's sixteen... can you even believe that?? Sixteen?? I've always felt old - married a man 9 years my senior - but really... sixteen?

I wanna youth pill - something to take off the years and leave the life-lessons intact .

Seriously though - congratulations on the haircut. You're a braver girl than I am :)

Heh. I was actually a bit concerned about my husband's reaction -- he is veeeeeery into long hair, and has always been opposed to me having more than an inch cut off. (I always had more than that cut to avoid having my hair grow too damn long, and he enver knew the difference.)

But he surprised me by saying he really liked it. And no, he wouldn't lie. :) His Mom used to be part of the whole pageant thing, had at least one girl go all the way to Miss Oregon, and she dragged Mark around to all of the events and such with her. He has an uncharacteristic (for a guy) knowledge of what looks good, and what doesn't. In fact, he teases me that his fashion sense is better than mine. So, him saying he likes my hair is like the seal of approval -- I will forever be able to keep it this short, now, without fear of listening to him complain.

And funny that you mention Mary Kay. I discovered their products three years ago, and now I don't have the acne problems I was plagued with since I turned twelve. I love it.
