Out of all the seasons, this is the first time I've loved the top 2 girls equally. Whoever wins tonight, I'm thrilled for one, and sad for the other.
We're fifteen minutes from the end. and I think it's pretty cool they brought back the "top five" of the season to walk the runway. That experience will no doubt help the top four (who don't win the coveted top spot) pursue their own modeling careers.
Hmm. Laura, Nicole, Laura, Nicole. Tough choice! I do not envy the judges this time out!
ETA: I should add, Nicole seems more high fashion to me, while Laura seems more cover girl - although, wow, watching them walk...hmm. Both girls have come so far! Why can't they both win??
Okay, I feel like Laura just barely edged out over Nicole in that runway. Wow. *bites nails*

Ugh.
Woke up late this morning, no time to pack a lunch, snack, or anything but grab a yogurt and coffee for breakfast. Coffee is key, as I'm sloooooooow today.
But not enough solid food + coffee is making my stomach queasy! I knew I should have eaten something for dinner last night.
In other news, I am all caught up on ANTM. Um. Is it just me, or was that season opener more crazy than usual? I mean, I get they try to do a new "theme" every season, but usually I still see the professional "this is a business these girls are trying to get into" underlying attitude. But dude, Tyra chasing some girl around the audition telling her to "run fiercely"?? "Beam me up, fiercely"? Um. Her whole demeanor seemed pretty erratic to me.
On the other hand, Nigel is still handsome and professional, and I still like Paulina so much better than Janet, and I find myself wondering at the editing cuts and if the rumored feud between Tyra and Jay Manuel has effected how he's edited on the show. There were a couple of times during auditions that he started to say something about a girl, and you could tell the editing cut him off before he was finished. Which can change the entire meaning of what we're hearing.
(Also, what is with Tyra's wardrobe this season?? It's awful! And I think her hairstyle choice is contributing to the bad and possibly even the "crazy" impression. Maybe. I don't like how it frames her eyes and hides half her face.) ( More behind the cut - spoilers for already aired eps) )

So I admit it - I have one reality show addiction, and it's America's Next Top Model. Say what you will, but I admit to being utterly captivated by it. (I started catching marathons of old seasons on MTV, and that was it, now I Tivo all the new seasons.) Unlike a lot of reality TV, the goal is not to humiliate contestants, and though the judges occasionally say harsh things, I'm sorry, but I've read enough about the modeling world to know those are nice compared to what these girls will hear working as actual models. What the judges say and what their coaches say are trying to prepare them for that, and yes, push them to a higher level of skill/talent. Most of these girls are so young, this is their first dose of the really real world of business, and what it takes to survive it.
Anyway, it is addictive. I love picking my favorites, watching as some girls go from awkward and unsure to confident and poised. Who's going to break down and cry, who's going to be the b*tch, and who's going to be professional. I love predicting who will win, and who will go home. It's not all about looks. A LOT of modeling is about personality, and allowing your personality to shine. Anyway, most seasons have at least one "plus size" contestant. In the modeling world, plus size means a size 10 or 12, which means OMG a normal woman with actual curves! vs the skinny girls who have, well, none. And I know it's not always easy being a size 0 or 2 and I've had friends who have, by God, tried to put on weight and couldn't, who lamented having no boobs, etc. But I'm in that camp of curvy women who struggle to keep off those twenty (or thirty) extra pounds. Most of those curvy girls have humungous confidence issues that end up crippling them. Seriously, the judges are all for the curvy gals continuing forward, but 99 times out of 100, they can't get past their own confidence issues to really shine as models. The longer the competition goes, the more they start to crack.
( Cut for some spoilers about this season in general, and last night's finale in particular. )
