I know people from Seattle on down have probably been posting about our crazy arctic front that's moved through the Pacific Northwest.  Even as far south as mid-Willamette Valley, Oregon has seen it's share of sudden temperature drops, ice, snow flurries, and now, freezing fog!  Whoo-hoo!  It's supposed to be gone by Thursday, but for now, it's literally shut down pretty much everything.  I know, people from colder environs laugh at our panic, but to be fair, it did rain all day Monday before suddenly plummeting below freezing and putting a light dusting of snow over the top of the ice overnight.

Schools pretty much announced "hey, we're closed for the next two days!" without waiting to see what the roads were going to be like tomorrow, and that has never happened before, that I can remember.

In the meantime, I was able to get out this morning and take a few pictures of our pre-winter winter storm.  Or whatever.

Not-so-winter wonderland. )

Snow Day!

Not the best pic, and I"m sure not much snow compared to what some of you get, but that's over ice.  All the schools are closed.  Where I work, of course, isn't ("liberal leave" - whatever!).  So, I called my boss this morning, and the first words out of his mouth were "I don't wanna go in!"  "Me either!" I said.

Turns out, he was awake and out driving in his truck, deciding whether or not he wanted to go in to work.  He said the roads didn't seem too bad....and then he got out from his little gravel road, to the main hill, where two cars had already slid off the road this morning.  This white fluff is coming down over the top of all the wet we had yesterday that has frozen into ice.  He said the roads are bad and he advised me to stay home.

Sometimes, I love my boss. :)

My plan today - finish my yuletide story, play in the snow with my nephews.

Better get crackin'!

We have rain! Most of the ice has melted under a continuing rainfall, allowing me the luxury of driving myself to work this morning!

Is it going to last? Well, they expect it to last for most of the day, at least, but later this afternoon it could turn back into snow. I'm going to keep a weather eye on things, and leave work early if it starts.

In any case, this is not the end, but only a respite according to our forecast. More snow tonight, more snow coming in Saturday/Sunday for next week. We shall see.

P.S. My serger is out for delivery - whoo-hoo!

Still OMGFREEZING, with new fun - today's prediction includes both snow and freezing rain, followed by more snow tonight and tomorrow.

I'm just guessing here, but I'm expecting to stay home from work tomorrow. I might end up going home early today, weather dictating.

I have a doctor's appointment I waited three months for today, and thanks to the craptastic weather, there is NO WAY I can get to it. *sigh*

Cold and sunny. Brrrrr.

Well, I made it into work today. Largely because the town a couple miles over where hubby and father-in-law both work as teachers, they got NO SNOW, and therefore no ice! Apparently, they closed yesterday because the storm had hit everywhere around them, and they...IDK, sympathy closed? Perhaps worried about their teachers making it in? Except today conditions are unchanged, and they're open, so who knows. In any case, they were going to work (thank GOD. Hubby does not do well with enforced idleness), so I had them take me into work as well, in the 4x4 rig with the snow tires on.

So it's me, and about twenty other employees on a site that normally has over 80. Heh. :) Just call us diehards.

Or people who don't want to use up all our leave on snow days, when there's another storm due to hit tomorrow, and yet another on Sunday.

We've had intermittent internet at our house, probably somehow due to the weather, so it's kind of nice being at work and having it all reliable.

Snow day

It's about 25 degrees F, or about 7 degrees below freezing, as it has been since I got up at seven this morning.  This is really freaking COLD for here, just FYI.  Ice and snow were bad enough, most schools canceled for today by about 10pm last night - which never happens around these parts.  I sent a text to my boss this morning, as our facility did not shut down, but is offering an "open leave" policy instead:

"hill covered in ice and snow, staying home today.  did many other people make it in?"

His response minutes later:

"glenn and I both stayed home.  Enjoy."

Hee.  Meaning if I had taken my father-in-law up on his offer to take me into work this morning, I would have been the only one in my office, probably one of the only few on center.

I can't seem to find my camera this morning, but I posted a pic of the stuff coming down, as well as some gratuitous jewelry stuff last night.

The view outside my house tonight:

Not much yet, but just north of me it's bad enough they're requiring chains to drive anywhere, and the freeway was shut down for awhile today.  There's ice under that snow, which is what makes it treacherous.  And my Mom informs me, not only is it supposed to remain below freezing all week with more snow showers off and on, but an even bigger storm is due to hit next Sunday.  We may get a white Christmas, and I can't remember the last time we had one of those (when I was in grade school, my mother informs me.)

Be safe, everyone under winter storm watches.

In the meantime, being holed up with the weather has given me time for jewelry making:
